Vision To Begin LGB - Mesa Nonstops

Sat Jul 28, 2007 6:24 am

How long will this last?

http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/0727mr-vision0728.html

....and who will be next to grab up the commuter slots at LGB?

Not only must Vision get its FAA approval first, however I really see just about zero demand between Mesa and Long Beach when there are many dozen daily flights between nearby Phoenix and Southern California including America West directly into LGB.

But hey, its a free country so they are free to try.  Yeah sure

They are calling LGB a hub. They applied for the EAS flights to Visalia and Merced and used the phrase "our Long Beach hub" in the application. Pretty good when they don't even fly there yet.  Wink

Are they a part 135 or 121 operation?

Currently a 135 operator awaiting final FAA approval to operate under 121.

Apparently Vision disagrees  Smile

They have been the only airline to last at IWA so they are at least doing IWA to Vegas right.

IWA - North Las Vegas service is quite different then what they propose for LGB.

Unlike their scheduled service proposal to LGB, the IWA-N LV service is charter activity tied primarily into packages sister company Vision Holidays sells that includes various types of air and ground Grand Canyon tour packages. Vision Holidays peddles its products via a host of distributors primarily at Vegas tourist.

Selling actual scheduled service between the Phoenix metro and Southern California, and the carriers other plans are quite something else. At least if the carrier is awarded one of the EAS contract it has applied for, they would have some revenue guarantees, but otherwise they are going to be in for a tough time.

Cheeky! I guess you could call it "a hub", since there'd be connection possibilities to JetBlue, but "our hub"? Oh, yeah, there's going to be a stampede of Visalians wanting to connect to Mesa...  sarcastic

I guess as a JetBlue stockholder (a tiny one!), I should support this - anything that brings potential JetBlue passengers to LGB is good. On the other hand, that's not a material number of potential connecting passengers, especially since the Vision flights won't carry the B6 code. And, more importantly, as an American taxpayer I find the idea of subsidizing air travel from cities that are not that far from major airports a waste of money. Visalia is only 44 miles from FAT (per Mapquest.) If we're going to spend money to tie VIS into a "hub", at least make it a "real" hub.

They also currently operate North Las Vegas to Carlsbad twice a week.

Not exclusively or "ONLY"

http://www.visionairlines.com/

you can buy a ticket and nothing else , although they do provide a free shuttle van form N LV airport to/from the strip. YOu can just buy air only with them without a package from IWA

Please provide some details to prove this

Well, if you put in www.visionairlines.com, you get Vision Holidays, and you have to complete a Consumer Operator Participation Contract, which equals "charter". And they're not listed in the FAA website of scheduled carriers.

The OP-cited article states they're waiting for FAA scheduled carrier approval.

yes if you read the fine print you see part of thr fare includes filling out a contractand paying the nominal fee, but you're still only getting airfare only if you want (no hotel, or grand canyon tour has to be purchased to fly on them to Las Vegas)

Where did you see me say "Only"?

As I said the N LV-IWA service is "charter activity tied primarily into packages sister company Vision Holidays"

Sure, you can buy a air only by going thru the charter contract and all however the flights are designed to move people back and forth (primarily from the LV end) to the various ground/air tour packages they have including things like river rafting expeditions. There are lots of resellers that book these packages in LV, and are used by foreign tour operators as well.

primarily into

they don't market package deals in any of their ads here in Phoenix or when they launched the service. so it is not Primarily, sorry for the adjective mix up.

I see where you went with this.

The point is that they are tryng to sell IWA service more or less as just an airline ticket, and that is the option many people in the East Valley use it for.
