Why No AA Cargo Only Aircraft?

Sun Jul 29, 2007 5:49 am

Some told me that at one point AA had aircraft for cargo only similar to AF and LH. Is this true and if so why don't AA have a/c like this anymore.? I know that on some of their current routes they do very well with belly cargo revenue.

AA did for a while have a few 747-200 Freighters and 707 Freighters. AA realized that they could still carry the cargo in the belly of the airplane and gain revenue.

AA Makes a ton of money on Cargo and they are smart enough to combine their mainline pax operation with cargo. Why fly dedicated aircraft when you can do both at the same time during business hours and provied same day service?

AA's 747 freighters were -100s, not -200s. They converted about 5 of their 16 747-100 passenger aircraft to freighters.

When it comes time to retire the A300s from pax service, could they convert some of them to cargo service? Or with the likes of UPS and FedEx is that not a good idea?
