Lybian Airlines (LN) FK-28

Mon Jul 30, 2007 4:34 pm

Hallo!

Does Lybian Airlines (fomer Lybian Arab Airways) still operate FK-28 aircraft(s). They still haven them in the fleetlist, but I cannot find any citypairs in AMADEUS where the schedule still has the FK-28 as regular aircraft. So I was wondering if they were still in use or not? If yes, can someone possibly provide me with the routes they still use the FK-28?

Thank you for your help and best regards from Munich, Germany,

Mike

The last FK-28 operated by Lybian Arab Airline is a F28-4000, registered 5A-DLV.

It used the fly from TIP to MLA, where it was regularly seen until the very last days of the year 2004.
Don't know if it is still in service today, but I doubt.

Thank you so far? However, are there any more current informations about the FK-28? The new JP still lists 4 FK-28 as operating for LN. And also, does LN really still operate flights with BAC 1-11 5A-DDQ (according to the new JP, it is still in their fleet and not marked as "stored")?

JP is probably listing, under the name of "Libyan Arab Airline", all the aircraft uncluding the one used by the Governement Libyan "Official".

I think it must be the case for this Bac 1-11, as I heard it is now reserved for executive used.

Most of the website dedicated to commercial airlines fleet are listing only 3 aircraft in service for LN :

2 A300-600 : 5A-DLZ, TS-IAX
1 A310-200 : TS-IGU

A 4th aircraft, an A310-200 TS-IGV, was retired from service last year and is said to be stored at AMM.

Hi Mfz,

answering your post, I must to comment that F-28 equipment is still in the LN fleet operating oil and gas flights on behalf companies making some business in the country.

Is easy to see them at Sebha, Marsa Brega and Ghadames. Flights are non-scheduled and are not available in GDS system.

If your dream is to fly in a F28, go to Dakar and book a flight to ABJ or OUA with 2J and VU airlines.

Regards,

Gerard

Because of the Lockerbie terror act in 1986 anything Libyan hasn't been welcome at most places. These planes haven't flown many hours during the last 21 years.

Also, they have been embargoed from renewing the fleet.

That's one very expensive way to salvage real museum stuff.

I have not been to Malta since 2002.

However, there is an viewing area.

Also there are local spotters.

If there are no pictures in the Photo Index, it probably means no LN F28.

If they were there, then there would be pictures IMO.

I think a lot of these restrictions have been lifted now??? Please correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't a deal done in return for the handover of the people responsible for Lockerbie???

LN seem to lease a range of aircraft as well as having their own. On their flights to MAN (2/week), July has seen

Yes the UN embargo was lifted in 2003. The embargo wasn't only prompted by the Pan Am bombing over Lockerbie, but also a few other terrorist actions blamed on Libya, mainly the bombing of the UTA DC-10-30 over Niger in 1989 that killed all 170 on board.

The USA reestablished full diplomatic relations with Libya sometime last year.

That's what I thought, thanks for the confirmation. That would mean then that LN are now able to fly more freely now. Anyone have a route network?
