That's quite a landing!

Looks like me trying to land a jet in FS2004 hahaha.

Wonder what the passengers thought....

Do you think they were told they were in for a rough landing?? They had to be, everyone on the left-side of the a/c would have seen how they were lined up to the runway! I wonder if the crew had everyone in the brace position??

I question the authenticity of the video because if you look at the windsock on the right side of the screen, its doesn't indicate a strong lateral wind.

Yea but there are other pictures on this site of 747's coming in to Kai Tak at that angle...

Not if WE make this thread interesting! It happens to me all the time so now I rarely post new threads.

If it were fake, it's pretty good. Watch it again and check out the spoilers flipping out first on the left wing, and even moreso on the right wing while Cappy yanks the yoke back left to get the thing on centerline as quickly as possible.

IMHO, it's not as much as the crosswind, as the approach turn may have went quite a bit too wide... so the windsock observation might be negligible.

That said, I'm sure that was quite the wild ride into good ol' Kai Tak.  Wink
We can agree to disagree.

it may not have been just a crosswind issue - that last turn in front of the checkerboard was pretty devilish to judge - leaving very little room for correction after levelling out if there was any kind of balls-up at all

Flight International published a pic of an 747 (of MH IIRC) that made pretty much the identical error to this KE pilot and the #4 engine socked the runway surface - leading to general admonishment of the crew for a rushed approach and a whole discussion on inadequate CRM, etc etc -

There's also video on YouTube of an AZ MD-11 basically landing on the very edge of the runway

i can only imagine the pax reaction when the maingear 'kissed' the tarmac...

with apologies to those who have seen it a million times before

...and these all appear to be on relatively calm days - Typhoons were a bitch - the only time I have ever been shaken up by a landing was at Kai Tak in '86 on a BA TriStar in a typhoon (and first time at HKG) I still get an adrenalin rush remembering it...

Is this real?

This video has been around for a while now. It looks real to me.
You can see more/similar videos in youtube, also.
