Sat Aug 04, 2007 1:24 pm

Are they doing well on the HKG-LHR run? I suppose they are......... Any chance of extra flights?

NZ said the other day that they have a Load Factor of 74.4% on the AKL-HKG-LHR route, how much traffic they are picking up on the HKG-LHR sector I'm not sure. I don't think either will be looking at extra flights in the short term, both are short of aircraft.

I think NZ are fairly happy with the route at the moment considering its been going less than 12 months.

Speaking with a NZ FA in April he said that the NZ HKG-LHR flights were consistently going out with with 70 - 100 seats empty in Y. I'd assume that things have picked up for the Summer. Also, NZ has been the cheapest airline to fly on the route over the last few months, in some instances cheaper than Oasis' flight HKG-LGW. NZ is advertising a HK$3750 fare return LHR-HKG right now.

Of course less than stellar Y loads or yields don't necessarily mean the route is under performing but it does show how intense the HKG-LON competition has become with 5 airlines flying nonstop with a total of 11 flights each day, most on 744s.

QF has used up all its flights at HKG so I assume its going well.

April is low season so I suppose flights might be a bit empty.

I suppose both NZ and QF are profitable on the HKG-LHR and will not pull the plug at all.

I flew NZ LHR-HKG on Thursday night (and yep they were cheapest at time of booking, certainly out of the LHR-HKG carriers) and there were 363 passengers aboard, not sure of the seating capacity of NZ's 744s but it looked very full.
Once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned forever skyward

Currently 386, will be reconfigred slightly soon with more Premium Economy bringing the total to 379.
