Possible Wizz And/or Vueling Takeover By EasyJet?

Sat Aug 04, 2007 9:16 pm

There are roumours around that easyJet in looking into taking over one or more low cost carriers in the near future! I've heard that possible Wizzair and/or Vueling are canditates for the takeover. Any more infos? What about Jet2, even though they have and old fleet which does not really fit into easyJet's state of the art fleet of B-737-700 and mainly A-319's!
Wizzair and Vueling would have the right aircrafts!

Leave Vueling alone! They're a great carrier serving major airports at very good prices, plus i like their livery Big grin

Sadly, another argument for a Vueling takeover would be that both easyjet and Vueling have the same MRO contractor.

What is MRO?

Jet2 never ever, Wizzair business strategy is resembles the one off Ryanair so I don't see it happening either! Vueling would be a good target since basically apart from the aircrafts they do things in a similar way...

or am I incorrect?

Would make sense as it would give U2 a strong foot in eastern europe, while they already have a strong presence in the same markets as Vueling serves.

Considering the poor financial performance Vueling is having anything is possible. Would give Easyjet a nice boost in the Spanish market.

I don't see easyJet taking over any company that dosn't fly the A319 as their main a/c. There wouldnt be any point. The main business plan that easyJet works on is that they will have one aircraft as the entire fleet. It then makes much less of a hastle having aircraft swaps, Planes going tech, delays etc as they can have the same crew. I can just about see them taking over some A320's as they would require the same amount of crew as an A319. But not any more 737's or anything bigger than a 320. Also means that all the crew and pilots have to go through new training for the new a/c.

- Easyjet also fly a small fleet of 73G so this is a moot point really.

Sky Europe fly 737-700 (well some, as well as the -500 and -300 which are on the way out). Easyjet should look at them. They have a business model that is much more up Easyjet's street. If they bought Wizzair they would close it down, sell the aircraft and replace many of the routes with A319. They would also probably scrap routes such as Budapest-Targu Mures unless, and i'd be surprised, it was highly profitable.

AdriaticFlight: You are right, SkyEuropes new CFO is one of the ex Easyjet founder team, so this move would make sense ?!? I think the next financial results of SkyEurope due to be published end of August and probaly again big big minus, may be then the shares will drop and its a good possibility for EasyJet to buy a big fraction.

Get off your high horse..... They are phasing out the 737's for all A319's. Possibly for 2010. So it dosnt really fit in to their business plan to include more aircraft they are phasing out does it.

I think SkyEurope is definately a more attractive takeover for easyJet than Wizzair.

Wizzair are really on high at the moment and booming in Eastern Europe, they have a clear defined business plan which is clearly working and are successfully operating alongside Ryanair and easyJet on the same routes... If they were to be taken over, easyJet would need to pay a premium! I don;t think Ryanair has any plans to take over any airline as they seem to grow organically and just crush any competition that is in their way!

SkyEurope's 737-700 fleet would not be a problem for easyJet they would just make BTS a 737-700 base like LTN and plan to phase out in a few years. If the airline was to take over SkyEurope they would pay Boeing or the leasing companies to cancel any remaining orders, and they would consider these costs before proceeding with the purchase.

EasyJet would probably keep the SkyEurope operating certificate, and keep aircrafts registered in Slovakia, like they do with GVA based aircraft which are Swiss registered. This would enable them to expand eastwards to the likes of Russia and Ukraine which currently have restrictions on the number of UK airlines operating there.

As it would be the routes EZE are after, the aircraft used wouldn't matter. They would do as they did with Go and flog them off, help offset the cost of a takeover. And they would have flight/cabin crew who would require minimal conversion to the A.319.

So I fear it isn't BA319-131 who is riding high, it would appear to be you my friend Big grin

When they took over GO they were running 737's anyway. Its not a minimal conversion course, its a whole new training program for each cabincrew member and line training for the flight deck. When easyJet took over GO they used their planes for a while anyway. You think i would know whats more likely? i do work for the company.... i have even talked to Mr harrison about it.
