SQ 285/286 - "leased Aircraft" In December?

Sun Aug 05, 2007 10:45 pm

I was just checking the SIA website, as you do, for flights from SYD to SIN (in case a certain aircraft might show up - it didn't, well not yet!) and there was a note about the SQ 285/286, which I think is the AKL flight. This will be flown by a leased acft in December and SIA was just letting people know this in advance.

However, does anyone know where this acft is coming from and how long it's leased for?

ps - As we have threads for so many other countries, how about a Singaporean aviation thread?!

Currently, there is a leased B744, registered as 9V-SPR, flying the SIN-AKL routes. The aircraft is in Star Alliance livery, and was formerly 9M-MPE of Malaysia Airlines.

WRT to a Singapore aviation thread, not sure how 'interesting' that would be.. Our aviation scene is pretty slow.

If you search before posting... you may have found that this has been discussed before...

ex MH birds previously registered 9M-MPE and 9M-MPC which are now registered with SQ under 9V-SPR and 9V-SPS though I'm not sure how long the lease is intended for.

Not sure what has happened to SPS, hasn't arrived yet. Was sposed to be for 10 months from July.

How come SQ first got rid of a bunch of B744's to CX etc and now are leasing other B7444's in, did they do some misscalulations or just not think ahead of demand increases in the near future?

Mainly relates back to the delay of the A380. SQ were going to run the 772ER's to AKL but due to strong demand in all classes they have had to lease aircraft to keep 744's on the route, also no First Class on SQ 772ER's.
