New MIA Airline Directory After Concourse J Opens

Tue Aug 07, 2007 2:05 am

Hey everyone,

This is my guess as to of which airline will operate out of the following concourses once the South Terminal/Concourse J at MIA opens this month.....(please correct me if I'm wrong).....

A-E area: American / American Eagle

F / G: Iberia, Caribbean Airlines, COPA, EL AL, Bahamasair, Air Jamaica, Airtran, Mexicana, Aeromexico, TACA, Alaska, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, LTU, Martinair, Aeropostal, Avianca, Cayman Airways, Eurofly, Santa Barbara Airlines, Aerolineas Argentinas, Avior, Sun Country.

H / J: United, USAirways, Continental, NWA, Delta, LAN, Lufthansa, SWISS, Alitalia, Air France, Air Canada.

Also, I assume that the A customs area will also close and that all Int'l arrivals will now continue to use E and now the new J?

If I am correct, seems to me like some of these Int'l carriers or all of them should temporarily move to J, because if only LAN, LH, LX, AZ, AF, AC will occupy J, thats only about 10 flights a day, seems like a waste of a brand new customs facility while E gets bombarded with AA's 150 int'l flights PLUS the other carriers I'm assuming will remain in F/G...LOL.

Thanks,
 Big grin

I don't have the entire list with me, but the majority of airlines will be at H / J, not F / G. Also, for whatever reason, Northwest will be at F / G while the rest of SkyTeam will be at H / J. When all is said and done, it will look like this:

Concourse D (which is currently A, C, and D): oneWorld + AA codeshare partners
Concourse H: SkyTeam + DL partners
Concourse J: Star + UA partners + Virgin Atlantic
Concourse E / F / G: Everybody else

One thing that some people at MIA are pushing hard for is offering very cheap usage rates for Concourse G (which is a dump) in hopes of luring jetBlue, Southwest, or expanded AirTran service.

How is this going to change AA's cramped operations at MIA? I assume AA will remain the primary occupant of A and D, but will the check-in and arrivals areas be changed?

A is closing because it is being merged into D and needs to have a train built on it's roof. They will also be rebuilding the British Airways Terrace lounge, replacing some of the stores/food concessions, etc., etc. AA will occupy pretty much all the gates at D and E. It remains to be seen if this will work, and they might have to use some gates in F, too. There will still be check-in space at C, even though the C gates are closing. AA will pretty much occupy all the check-in space at C, D, and E. I also believe that the check-in space at A will remain open, and AA will use all of it.

Perhaps also Spirit can use F at MIA for a "focus city operation" kind of like how AA uses FLL for some Int'l service to alleviate some of the overcrowding happening there in T4 at FLL...LOL.

MIA is submitting an application in Spirit's "low fare relief" program.

Oh my! Wow, would be interesting to see how this unfolds.

All I have to say is that passengers are REALLY going to hate AA at MIA these next few years when they find out their check in will be at A, but their flight is departing from F23...LOL!!! I can't wait for that north terminal to finally be finished and for all the highway entrances in/out of the airport to be complete so we can stop using Le Jeune Rd...LOL.

G has major problems with any development.....structure is out of code just as old B was. Plans awhile back called for G to come down and be a nub for express use. FYI...isn't AA coming to F while their /new structure/ gets closed down and rebuilt correctly in a non SIDA environment for 2 years in order to compress the repair time?

Meanwhile no wants MIA...skybus....spirit...jetblue...allegiant...westjet..(or passenger preference polls)......they are all at FLL making money...while MIA can't even match prices even if they 'give it away'....and now has acres of empty concrete on the passenger side. I would strongly suspect that if FLL had a larger customs or PBI had a real one even more service would be out of MIA.

You are being a little bit too over dramatic, and that final statement is absolutely idiotic.

MIA's costs are not ideal for low fare carriers, but full service and international airlines do fine at MIA. PBI is not an alternative for international service for Fort Lauderdale, and as AeroMexico and the many European airlines that have tried FLL have discovered, there is no real alternative for long-haul service to MIA.

JetBlue will be at MIA within three years. They aren't going to ignore Miami, especially because Virgin America is coming to MIA next year.

And three years ago I would have laughed at the thought of Southwest flying to MIA, but now? No. They're at Denver, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Dulles. A few years ago those would have been laughed at too.

I'm not saying I expect Southwest at MIA soon, but I am saying that the answer to the question "When will Southwest fly to MIA?" is no longer "When pigs fly."

How about JJ? I would assume they're moving into J given the new code-share agreement with UA.

Yes, TAM is going to Concourse J. They will have the second flight landing at Concourse J.

A is closing for renovations? Isn't it one of the newer concourses at MIA? Was he construction that shoddy that it already has to be rebuilt?

I didn't say anything about renovations, but given that it is closed, they will obviously do some renovations.

A is not closing because it has to close, it is closing because by closing A, MIA can speed up construction by about a year.

One major component is a new train system that is running from A to D on the roof. The stations are already in place over D, and have to be built all the way down. It is going to be a lot easier to build this if they can close down Concourse A. This is going to cut one year off construction of the train.

There will be some renovations in the form of a brand-new British Airways lounge and some new retail stores and restaurants. There will also do some major roof work as they are building a train and stations on the roof.

Also, American Airlines will most likely be re-opening a Flagship Lounge at MIA, but I don't know the location.

Is being closed not because of bad constructions, but because a train needs to be built on the roof to connect to link Concourse "A" to the rest of the North Terminal, besides some work that needs to be done to phisically open the concourse "A"to the rest of the North Terminal. there is also some interior renovations/ updates to the retail area and to the BA Terrace Lounge as MAH4546, so i guess the Miami basshing team will have to wait since this time is nobody's fault , bare in mind that councourse "A" is almost 10 years old, so a cosmetic interior renovation is also welcomed, but again not the main reason for closure.
