SXM Question + Advice

Wed Aug 08, 2007 1:21 pm

I have a 4 hour layover at SXM and I was hoping to rent a car and go to Maho Beach to do some plane spotting. Few questions -

1/ Is it doable?
2/ When does the AF counters open?
3/ Any ideas what kind of traffic I will see from noon to 4pm?
4/ I was planning on a quick swim ... any suggestions where I can change quickly and shower?
5/ Any other advice?

Thanks all. I promise good TRs.

Cheers,
A.

1 - Yes, hop in a cab and ask them to take you to Sunset Beach Bar.

2 - Unknown

3 - That time is peak time for heavies, so you should get your fill.

4 - If I remember right, I thought SBB had showers on the deck. I am sure you can change in the rest room. Just tell the bartender you are a plane nut and they will understand.

5 - Bring some money for some Heinekens, tip your bartenders and enjoy the view.

For the AF 489 flight to CDG, the AF check-in opens at 12h00, just over 4 hours before the departure time. (I assume that you will be travelling during the summer timetable).

If you want to avoid running around too much, check in, then go through immigration and security and spend your time at the nice bar in the middle of the departure area. You can enjoy a drink and have a good view of the runway. Of course Maho Beach is great, but if you feel lazy then my idea is not bad !! Another advantage of my idea is that you will avoid waiting to go through security.

= This is perfect! I can then check-in my bags and then head to the beach with a change of clothes. The reason I was renting a car is to leave my stuff and change of clothes. And yes, its summer timetable ... its tomorrow!

= Showers on the deck? Hmmm ... can someone confirm  Smile? I need to shower. The last thing I want is denied J class entry.

Cheers and thanks all,
A.
