VX First Flight Photos

Fri Aug 10, 2007 6:43 am

Got this link from a friend....really cool photos of all of the onboard stuff and first flight launch of VX yesterday. Very detailed photos of Red.

Won't find this on a certain DFW based airline!

I just about fell over when I saw the photo of the "Virginity Pledge".

That's an interesting bulkhead set up. Definitely a lot better than the typical bulkhead where the tray table is in the arm rest. The colored glass (I'm assuming some sort of Plexiglas) is definitely unique for separating cabins.

Some aspects of the IFE remind me of the new DL IFE. I have to say the food and drink ordering ability is pretty cool. That's something I'd like to see more airlines do, as not everyone wants to eat or have something to drink at the time they offer it onboard.

Good point, but Virgin will probably keep a high standard of cabin repair and cleanliness. I doubt they will let these birds become ratty. The sleek, clean thing is the whole idea.

After looking at those photos, I definitely hope they add ATL before next Spring, as I may consider flying on them for my trip to Las Vegas in the Spring.

It makes me wonder how DL and FL will respond once VX starts service into ATL. Considering the number they did on B6 when they started ATL service, it could get interesting.

It's too bad that I'd be bleeding red ink if I went to work for them, considering that they are based in one of the most expensive places to live in the world, and the starting pay isn't very good.

I would like to see them come to DTW. However, they will expand to every city that Virgin Atlantic flies to first and then look at other cities. That way they can keep the pass. on a Virgin product all the way from the west coast to what ever city that they will be flying to overseas.

Good luck to them

Reminds me a lot of my first flight on JetBlue, right at the beginning of the airline in the early 2000's. I was so excited and still miss it a lot (wish it would fly out of LAX!). I have to visit a cousin in NYC...i know which airline I'm going to fly!

Best wishes to Virgin America, it's definitely a breath of fresh air (or jet blast, I'd rather say!).

Cheers!

The product is without a doubt awesome, but I can see many problems with it... Maintenance costs for the electronics is going to hurt VX badly... On B6's tv's, they're not touchscreens, yet they somehow manage to have scratches on them, imagine how it's going to be with VX since it is touchscreen. I also see the ordering and chat system being abused... It's a shame, but there always has to be someone to ruin it for everyone...

As a former F/A I used to go bonkers when call bells lit up. Can you imagine being in a cabin with 150 people being able to order from their seats...one item at a time?

I'll give it to VX- they have truly put the customer first and developed an airline that gives the customer exactly what they want - a reasonable fare and great service at the touch of a button. I would LOVE to have them at DFW....but we all know what a pipe dream that is!

I wonder if it'd be too expensive to introduce this brilliant cabin layout/design on Virgin Atlantic I think it would make their International product incredible.

P.S. Is it possible to buy connecting tickets between the Virgin Companies now?...Like say you wanted to fly LHR-SFO....Could you Buy a ticket from LHR to SFO Via JFK flying VA and then VX?

For that matter, do the airlines support connections with their 'sister' companies?

what do you guys think of their mainline airport strategy?

Haven't heard them say much about turnaround times at SFO, JFK, IAD, LAS, and LAX.

Flight schedules will have to accommodate their aircraft utilization requirements, not business traveler peak demand hours in order to work at these places. That's been B6's strategy, even at alt. airports, although the Neeleman PR machine never highlighted this.

Great pics of VX!

To redefine air travel the industry needs to raise fares. You can't get a meal, more space, and better amenities on a whole if you are not willing to pay for it. People want dirt cheap fares, but they also want pre-deregulation service and it ain't going to happen.

But in all honesty, that certain DFW based airline is the same as many other legacies. It just so happens that you live in eagle turf.

I flew on Virgin America the first day of regular scheduled flights. I did a quick RT between LAX and SFO. The link below is for my review and photos of the experience.

Sadly, you are quite correct. Nevertheless, the existence of VX as well as JetBlue gives me hope there will at least be a market for reasonably priced good service. To each their own, I suppose.

I think they will do well. I am glad to see another airline come up offering an improved service versus a cheaper price. Already I have heard that people are saying they and JetBlue aren't the cheapest anymore, but they still prefer to fly them. Perhaps this might signal that it is OK for airlines to raise the price a little - if they can justify that increase with a service increase.

AS far as the interior goes, you know, the more I look at it, the more I am kind of feeling that it will get very old and gimmicky quick. Kind of like a bad 80s interior. Still, the good legroom and better IFE will make up for that.

For those who didn't have a chance to be at SFO during the inauguration there is a photo of "Three Virgins" with BA parked on one side at http://www.pbase.com/ksfo . Photo is on the second page. JetBlue which normally parks at the gates Virgina America occupied on inaugural day had to park on gate A2, the far side of Int'l Terminal A.

Great interior! WoW! but I'm wondering, with such a great service, how much longer are they going to keep their fares low? They will soon learn that costumers are willing to pay extra for these services and will start to raise airfares. I for one would pay more to fly VX than WN or B6 or even AA and UA. My guess is once they show off their product they will start looking at revenue the same way all the other airlines do. $$$$
