EK From NCL Proving Popular

Fri Aug 10, 2007 6:01 pm

http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/BU0708/S00209.htm

With the first two flights from Newcastle already sold out in record time, the majority of travellers are looking beyond Emirates home base of Dubai as their final destination.

Laurie Berryman, Emirates Manager UK North, said: “The response from the North East public fully justifies the introduction of the first ever scheduled long haul service from Newcastle Airport.

“We’ve had a fantastic response to the launch. The first two flights have sold out in record time, filling up more than two months in advance – the best sales we’ve ever had for a UK launch.”

Looks like EK could have struck gold with this one.

Very nice & smart move from EK to open a new route to NCL. They have a great connection network via their hub in DXB. I wish them all the best and all other airlines

I'm guessing that EK having success plus the upcoming EU-US open skies could be the beginning of more long haul ops out of NCL, any thoughts?

I was looking to non-rev on the inaugaral flight until I saw that it was completely sold out. Think Im going to do it at the end of September now instead as the flights dont look as busy then. I cant wait to see that A330 fly over my house from NCL after take-off. Fingers crossed for EK as this is what NCL has needed for a long long time. I just hope that other long haul carriers start to operate out of here as well ie AA, CO and Zoom

EU-US open skies is irrelevent, any UK or US airline can already fly from Newcastle. AA proposed flights to JFK last year, but dropped them at the last minute due to lack of demand.

The only thing EU-US open skies will change is allowing European airlines to operate on this route, and if AA cant make it work through their JFK hub, no European airline is going to make it work point-to-point!

Not just pax demand, cargo demand for this route has been PHENOMENAL as well.

CO would be the best airline for NCL-USA flights.

..why is that? one would think DL might do well on the JFK-NCL route also.

Was it lack of demand or was it also the fact they didn't have enough B752's, especially given they were selling many of them to DL..

No other US airline can offer as many connections from NYC that CO can.

Fuel price...announced a flight about 5 months before seats went on sale so everyone forgot about it...no advertising...the list goes on and on.
EK have focussed on AA's failures and thus have a profitable new route.

There is again lots of chat that CO may add EWR-NCL for the Summer 2008 schedule........lets see if it happens this time, there have been so many rumors about CO flying to NCL (both inside and outside of CO) that its hard to know exactly what to think. CO would do very well at NCL, in my opinion; CO has done very well at UK ""regional"" airports and NCL would continue that trend.

That EK is off to a great start at NCL is also no surprise.......pax travelling to/from the UK appreciate the opportunity to avoid connecting at Heathrow. EK offers service to DXB and beyond, just as CO would offer service to EWR and beyond. Lets hope that CO makes its move at NCL.

Of which, there is a daft rumour going around that BA will drop NCL-LHR.

Even though it has less flights out of JFK than CO does at EWR, DL can certainly provide the connections at JFK...

Great news for Newcastle.

Anyone got any information on how MAN is doing - any developments, capacity increase to 3rd daily, change to flight timings?

What kind of cargo? Fish from the North Sea to Dubai restaurants and fruit from Middle East to people in Newcastle mostly, or...?

Hint: EK also operates flights to China.

Quote:
A survey of Emirates forward bookings reveals the top 10 destinations for the Newcastle route are:

1. Australia
2. Thailand
3. Dubai
4. China
5. South Africa
6. India
7. New Zealand
8. Hong Kong
9. Pakistan
10. Bangladesh.

Perhaps QF and TG have now missed the boat at NCL  duck
