Austrian Airlines Emergency Landing At ORD

Sat Aug 11, 2007 10:14 am

Hello all,
Just heard that an Austrian airlines flight from ORD-VIE was forced to make an emergency landing at O'hare. From sources inside the terminal they are stopped on the runway and the pax are deplaning by stairs. Any information?? Looked up flight aware and all that it showed was the air interrupt. It was flight 66

What time was this around? Did it delay other flights as well? I noticed the EI 330 and Virgin A346 yesterday landing on 4R yesterday around 4:15 to 4:30, which I thought was a later than usual arrival -- could this have been why?

OS066 took off at 17:34 and landed again at 18:12, and the aircraft returned to the gate at 18:59. All times are local. It doesn't look as if the aircraft has since departed again.

That's what it looked like yesterday when I was driving down I-88 from work. I'm not a 100% sure, but it sure looked like it -- I wasn't that far away, but then again, it was kind of muggy yesterday and visibility wasn't superb. Saw it turn downwind into 4R. Maybe a last minute equipment change. Is there a way to verify?

Okay, so I guess I was wrong on the frame. But damn I honestly thought it was the 46 -- the body looked so long as it banked and lined up for landing. Oh well, must have been wishful thinking. Anyway, what about the EI flight? I think it might've been from Shannon, which I think arrives later?

They had a serious engine problem AFAIK. Heard that from a friend who works with OS.

As on of their 777's is AGO aswell and sitting in the OS hangar I do very much hope they regret their stupid decision tp give a away their Airbus longhaul fleet and keeping their 767's.

Another info about the flight:

It departed and they had a engine failure while climbing out of ORD. Despite dumbing fuel they made an overweight landing and blew 6 tires.  Smile

Everything else is fine.

Should be pulling it into the Delta Hangar today to start the engine change. Upon borescope inspection they determined the engine change. IIRC it was three tires blown or they bought three tires from United.... I wasnt working Intl that day.

Here's a brief article from the Tribune. Looks like it was an engine problem after all? But does anyone know where they could've gone to dump fuel? There's no way they did it in the area surrounding O'hare -- maybe over lake Michigan?

Would this loss of a/c service affect schedules to destinations where the 763 flies to like BOM, DEL or JFK?? Or would it not impact it at all??

Nope. You're right, it was a 343. I was at ORD yesterday (Sunday), and they brought the 343 in.

Cool. Thanks for pointing that out. Looks like they went pretty far out over michigan to dump. Kinda scary if you think about having to fly out there on one engine. Then again, that's why they have ETOPS. Looks like she was trying to burn some more off over the northwest side. Glad everything turned out okay? Any word on the status of the of the plane -- is it still at ORD?
