The "airport of the future" in ANC
is fine so long as it's not a peak time, but good luck if you have to check a bag at a peak departure time. Then, it turns into a total clusterf*ck.
I'm going to go against the grain and say that I do not like the ANC
set-up. It would work better if they would actually adequately staff the check-in area, but like I said, best of luck to ya if you have to check bags at peak times. My boss and his wife arrived at ANC
two and a half hours early for flight 110 to PDX
, and nearly missed their flight because the bag check is so slow. (And no, I promise that is not an exaggeration).
The situation at ANC
would be improved if they would put in a dedicated web-bag drop, and if they would actually use the entire check-in area, as opposed to about the 1/3 or 1/2 of it that they actually use. I have gold status on AS
, and I have never, ever seen the entire check-in hall at ANC
used. More often than not, there will be only three or four of these islands actually open. If every single island was used and staffed at a peak time, I could definitely buy the AS
claim that it cuts check-in time in half, but in real life I think it's just a marketing gimmick. Hopefully they do a better job at SEA
Between the "airport of the future" and the moronic design of the TSA
at peak times these days is like going through a gauntlet. Thank God for the AS
