KLM MD-11 Diverted To AUA

Sun Aug 12, 2007 2:33 am

As I arrived in AUA on Aug 5th, I was a bit suprised to see a KLM MD-11 sitting at the gate with no activity going on around it.

Usually they come in at sunset time and leave in the morning...it was 2:30pm I saw the KLM MD-11.

As I left on the 9th, I read in a Aruba Daily paper that KLM was going to AMS from SXM and experienced an engine trouble and decided to divert to AUA. It stayed at AUA for a few days and 200 pax had to be booked into the hotel while KLM sent a 747 to AUA to pick up the stranded pax. The stranded pax got home 3 days later.

When I went home on the 9th, the KLM MD-11 was gone.

Was the aircraft ferried on 2 engines or was it fixed in AUA? And what kind of engine problem happened?

It was not a diversion. The flight was KL765 AMS SXM AUA AMS and after experiencing engine trouble upon take off, it just continued its journey to AUA, where the remainder of the flight was cancelled. The aircraft was ferried to AMS on August 07.

Quoting HB-IWC (Reply 1):

It said diversion in the paper. I took it home to scan it later.

Sounds like an automatic assumption by the paper, and an incorrect one at that...

HB-IWC is correct. The KL M11 experienced engine problems and stayed in AUA until it was fixed a few days later. The aircraft was ferried to AMS empty when it was fixed and all stranded passengers were picked up by another KL aircraft (KL 744).
