American Eagle To Resume MIA-SAV

Sun Aug 12, 2007 6:49 am

American Eagle will resume non-stop service between Miami and Savannah, Georgia after a six year haitus. Daily service starts on 13 December 2007:

AA 4951 MIA 2000-2203 SAV AT7 Daily
AA 4952 SAV 0801-1010 MIA AT7 Daily

Great to see this route back. SAV airport officials have been working very, very hard trying to convinc AA to resume this route.

I've been hearing talks of Miami-Merida (daily) and Miami-Pensacola (2x daily) with the ATR-72s. They were in talks with Daytona Beach a few years ago, but nothing ever happened. Sarasota resumes this December, Naples is looking more and more likely to resume in the near future (2x daily), and they just started talks with airport officials in the Keys about resuming service to Marathon (1x daily).

The ATR-72 fleet, especially the Miami-based aircraft, is ridiculously under-utilized.

Unfortunatley the seats and comfort of the AA ATR's leaves a LOT to be desired.... it's like being in prison .. no leg room, horrible seat pitch... I cannot imagine flying on this for more than an hour.

Agreed. It goes for most ATRs in general. Though as terrible as it is, the things are huge money makers thanks to their cargo hauling capabilities and cheap operating costs.

You could be right about more than an hour but I flew in one from EYW-MIA and it was not bad at all.

Thank goodness, I remember talking to you about this one Mark, and you said it was only a matter of time. Glad to see this one is coming back. Unfortunatly, they announce it 2 months after I moved away from SAV, but good to see the route.

Any chance Vero Beach (VRB) or Melbourne (MLB) will come back online?

VRB is probably too small to get sked service back, but check with Mark--he'll know about MLB-MIA service with Eagle, if it ever returns.

A lot of VRB traffic in spring is for the Dodgers spring training and with the Dodgers leaving in '09 there would not be enough traffic for even a seasonal route.

Who will do the ramp in SRQ, APF, MTH if there is no AA ramp personal on site?

Yes, RJs would be nice, but there aren't enough to go around, though there are plenty of extra ATRs. Intra-Florida, AA wants to make all five daily MIA-JAX flights ERJs, but even that will take a long time.

Doubt it.

No idea, it will be contracted it out to somebody. At Marathon they would be the only scheduled airline if they go through with it. At Naples, American Eagle service is largely pending on what Delta does. Delta is down to only one daily CRJ, and they have put APF on notice that if things don't improve this winter, the service is gone. American Eagle has said they will likely be willing to step in and fill the gap.

It would be nice to see someone return to MIA-APF. Remember 25 years ago, when PBA served this route with a mix of DC-3s, Martin 404s, and YS-11s?

American Eagle will recieve a one-time $50,000 in incentives, to be used for advertising to promote the new non-stop flights.
