American Eagle To Resume MIA-SRQ Service

Sun Aug 12, 2007 7:11 am

American Eagle will resume twice daily service between Miami and Sarasota, Florida on 13 December 2007. American Eagle has not served Sarasota from Miami since April 2000.

AA 4985 MIA 1350-1501 SRQ AT7 Daily
AA 4987 MIA 2000-2108 SRQ AT7 Daily

AA 4988 SRQ 0644-0745 MIA AT7 Daily
AA 4986 SRQ 1534-1635 MIA AT7 Daily

Great to see American back at Sarasota. This service will operate on a year-round basis.

It is interesting to note that on 13 December 2007 American Airlines will launch three routes from Miami (as of now, more might be coming), and all three are routes that were discontinued in the early 2000s - Barranquilla, Sarasota, and Savannah.

Interesting. I notice the flight gets into MIA at 7:45. What southbound connections are available then. I thought that group of flights didn't leave until around 11. Or is for northbound flights from MIA.

Now, are there any AA FFers still around the SRQ area? Probably not.

Who has served this route since AE left? There was some operation named Florida Air (FLAIR) for about 2 months, if even that long. Then I thought CO Connection/Cape Air, not sure.

I also believe this will be the 1st time ATR-72s will be used on the route.

I wonder if they will use the commuter gates or the B gates. Can you even park ATR 72's at a jetway with the baggage compartment where it is? AA did fly ATR 72's in to SRQ during the winters in the 90's with a mix of 42's and 340's

It has been a good summer for SRQ, traffic continues to rise about 10% a month and 2 new carriers announced with Eagle and USA3000. Plus the added daily to STL for Airtran. It is going to be a busy winter. I wish them success.

AA has alot of Latin America/South America flights that leave at 10 or 11pm. They also have some Northbound flights leaving at 10pm.

The early arrival is to absolutely maximize connections, both to the Caribbean and domestic. You can connect to basiclly any AA destination except deep South America with a 2-3 hour layover. AA does not have banks at MIA. Most international flights start to depart around 10AM. The afternoon flight is designed to connect to Europe and some afternoon South America/Caribbean departures.

Savannah is coming back to/from Miami? I guess I missed that announcement.

The B gates are the only option. The former commuter area is now the home of TSA who at their present expansion plans will have all realestate in the USA by 2017 under their take over america plan.

SRQ numbers were up 19% in June and the expectation is for an increase of 18% for July when the numbers are fianlized.

Eagle will do exceedingly well given the need for international connectability and the lack of international options.
SRQ and the area is beoming increasingly upscale and needs to continue its direction.

Where do you guys get pax # for SRQ? I can't find it on their website.

They used to, I guess I'm just used to the old schedule.

Why did AA leave in the 1st place? If I remember, AA said too many would rather drive to TPA to catch full size jets.

Why did AA leave in the 1st place?

They left Naples and Sarasota because they were phasing out their ATR-42s and, as a result, ended many smaller markets that AA felt could not support the large upswing in capacity. Though now AA certainly feels the market is back. The flight schedule allows someone in Sarasota to do a full day of business in Miami, but they are certainly aiming at connecting traffic here. If the flight does well enough, AA will add a third daily that would include an early morning departure from Miami.

I wish they would expand it and do something like what RSW does where you can see traffic numbers from the first month of operations.

Hoping for that 3rd flight and a jet to DFW

Here is the newspaper article from the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. American Airlines will be getting 500,000 in incentives, and SRQ officials are hoping that AA will carry roughly 100,000 passengers in the first year of service. Unfortunately, this will not be possible, as AA will only be offering 93,440 seats for the entire year.

Yes, in the late 1990s all ATR flights in ORD used a jetway. The baggage compartment isnt a problem, you board thru the rear.

Yea I remember now, baggage is just behind the flight deck with boarding at the rear door behind the wing. I would like to see how they park the aircraft and drive the jetway up to the rear door. I'm thinking they are going to need to paint some new stripes on the ramp.

So no 107% load factor then eh. Better add some more flights then.
