Hey, if the Airbus folks want to impress me, let's see them bring that big sucker to Lindbergh Field!

That is good that they are coming to US again. I am surprised that they are coming to BDL, Does BDL recently upgrade the taxiway and runways to fit A380? same with CVG?? Since I live less 3 hrs away from CVG. I will try my best to come down there to be part of people to see the historical landing at CVG. Oct 3-4 which is on Wed and Thurs.

I can understand CVG as Cincinnati is the HQ for GE aircraft engines, however why would they undergo airport compatibility checks, ground handling and maintenance procedures at CVG? CVG will never see an A380 in regular service.

Not surprised that the A380 will come to SFO in October. After all, Singapore Airlines wants to fly the A380-800 on the SIN-HKG-SFO route (a big moneymaker for the airline), and Lufthansa will probably assign the A380-800 to fly the FRA-SFO route (a big moneymaker for Lufthansa).

That is just way....tooo....cool. Too bad I don't live there anymore to see it  Sad My hometown airport.

What is the reason for the BDL/CVG flights?

BDL: I am guessing as a possible diversion airport
CVG: Who will fly the A380 or divert to CVG?

The reason for Bradley & Cincinnati is related to the fact that the engine makers (P&W and GE) are located near each.

According to the other thread, A380 is coming to Hartford because that's where engine partner Prat & Whitney is -- to show off the product to the folks at Pratt.

CVG has an actual designated spotting area on the east side of the field.

I am not from the Cincinnati area, I live in Florida, but originally from Detroit. Everytime I drive from Detroit to Florida on I-75 I stop at it though. I want to say the exit comes after the I-275 circle called Earlanger or something like that. You go about two miles on a two lane road, then you will see signs that say Aircraft viewing area. It is really good for morning arrivals and you are right next to the runway on the east side of the field.

Thanks for the update. I'm planning on making the trip to BDL, most likely getting a hotel room. I understand that the Sheraton Bradley has good views but it's a bit on the expensive side. Does anyone know if there are other airports that may provide a view? What about Comfort Suites or Days Inn?

Darn...it looks like seeing the A380 come into Bradley will be a nightmare, arriving as it will be during the height of morning commute time. I can't get from southern NH down there to see it depart the next day, either, if she's leaving at 6am.

I may just go down on the 2nd and hopefully will be able to view it wherever they park it.

Great news! I'll definitely go to check it out at the spotting area near CVG.

Quoting PITops (Reply 19):

Usually, all heavies use 18L/36R and 18C/36C and 27 (but 27 only for takeoffs). From that area you can see 18L/36R, while the center runway is behind the concourses and is simply too far from that area.

I'm wondering that too, since the airbus' website mentions aircraft being on static display.

Is it possible that someday it could be used by Air France from paris? Just connecting two skyteam hubs? I know that it sounds unlikely and that Airbus said they want to show off to the Engine manufactures, however what are the chances?

I may need to leave Indy abut 5am so I can be there little early in case they make an early arrival or I can get there night before. Do you have any suggest on where is good airport. Well, I am making an all night trip up from Nashville for it so i'd say it's worth it! LOL!!

Take a look at googlearth and look on the east side of the field for the observation lot. That should be a good place to spot. If memory serves me right, most of the heavies land on the east side anyway. I may be wrong though.

*******UPDATED SFO INFO****************

For those wanting to get pictures of the A380 doing ground manuovers upon arrival, the ideal spot would be parking garage G at SFO facing towards the East Bay.

Also, for those wanting to see the plane in flight over SF, head down to the Marina Green on Friday afternoon (Oct. 5). Times to be announced later.

I hope all three airports have plans to deal with the many enthusiasts who will want to see this plane. Let people park; let them get out of their cars; let them see history. Back east here at BDL and CVG, the arrival will be in the morning on weekdays. This whole thing will be compounded by commuter traffic around both airports, unfortunately.

For SFO spotters,
I checked out the G garage this morning and it doesn't seem like a good spot to see the A380. However I was at the location that is closest to the Airtrain station so maybe at the other end of the garage the view may be better. So plan ahead.
Also, a reason for the 10am arrival of the A380 is becuase around Noon the Blue Angels are flying in from Salinas for the fleet week airshow.

Sorry for the confusion. The latest info I have heard is that they have moved the arrival time to 10am (PDT) so that not to interfere with the Blue Angels arrival at noon. Also, all times mentioned are local times. As we get closer I'll try to see if I can get a more definitive time for everyone.

I'll see if I can get any more details for the SFO group. I know it will be a very busy time at SFO come next Thursday thru Sunday.
