ATA B753 IN Guam!

Wed Aug 15, 2007 5:37 am

Such a rare occurence that I had to inquire. Tried searching for hours as to the reason for its arrival but can't seem to find anything! Anyone know what this bird was doing in GUM 8/14/07? My good friend Mark instant messaged me yesterday telling me it was in Guam yesterday (I live in the US Mainland) and now I'm curious.

Hi there ,

the most likely answer would be military transport . ATA is used frequently by the US military

Probably, Fukuoka is a rather large military base and so is Guam, could be transporting between Fukuoka, Guam and say HNL.

Just my thought.

ATA was in NKM a few months back transporting Japanese SDF members to I think Afghanistan.

There was an article in the New York Times a few weeks back about Japanese Self Defense Forces expanding their military capability, as part of this they have been training heavily (most Air and Naval Forces) in Guam as there is some kind of restrictions on their use of live ordnance bombing in Japan. They have been rotating squadrons into Guam to use US bombing ranges, and to further integrate their systems with the US Military.

I have heard this as well. Joint training between the Japanese and Americans has been hitting snags by local interest groups all over.

Saw an Omni at NGO back not long after the new airport opened. People told me it was a military charter but there are no US bases in Chubu and the SDF is at its own airport (former NGO now NKM). Never found out why they were at NGO. Some suspected GUM tours (but we have NW and CO running 3 flights a day and JL runs charters from time to time) but others thought it was a charter for a group that performed on "American Day" at the World Expo in 2005. We will never know.

the Japan Air SDF visits Guam (UAM Andersen AFB) with their fighter aircraft and suport planes but not in Huge numbers, they sometimes Hire FedEx Md11 to help move some of their stuff ..from Japan and Back...Airspace near Guam is open and there is a Live fire Target island north of Guam called FDM one of the Northern Mariana Islands,

So its a nice way to practice without the restrictions in Japan on Hours of operation and tight airspace blocks, and have a nice vacation in Guam  Smile
