CO Elite Needing Help Booking Delta

Wed Aug 15, 2007 7:46 am

Afternoon...

So I've decided to try something new, and just booked my first flights on Delta.

My question has to do with giving Delta my OnePass number. There's no way to do it during online booking.
How do I attach my OnePass number to a Delta reservatin?

Also, I am silver elite with Continental. I realize that I am only entitled to a 25% mileage bonus on Delta, rather than the standard 50% on CO, NW, or AS.
But how do I let them know that's I am SkyTeam elite?
What perks am I entitled to? Will I get space available upgrades to first, like I do on Conti, Northwest, or Alaska?
The website says I get priority baggage handling, but how will I get that if they don't know I am elite?

Kinda frustrated with Delta's website... wrote them and email, and their response was, "Well, you can always call us to book your itineraries over the phone." Yeah, I know how that works... and I am not particularly inclined to pay $10 just to speak to someone to book my ticket when I can do it myself.

Any help, folks?
Thanks,
Randy

DL's web site sucks.

Book your ticket on their web site and don't put in any frequent flier number. You have to call DL at 800-221-1212 and explain to someone in India that you'd like to have your CO FQTV number added to your record. Be very careful about how you provide the first two letters -- mine starts with SM so I always say 'S' as in Sierra and 'M' as in Michael plus the remaining six digits.

Once they have entered the FQTV in properly then they will notice that you are ST Elite (in your case as Silver and Gold are ST Elite) or ST Elite Plus (Platinum only).

No space available upgrades on DL for CO or NW members, sorry!

You will get only the standard SkyTeam benefits as detailed on the Continental web site: http://www.continental.com/web/en-US...content/onepass/elite/skyteam.aspx

Once you've given them your CO FQTV then they will see you are ST Elite (or Elite Plus) automatically. At this point you can then request premium seating -- but be prepared to be firm in your request as the first person almost always says no. Note that their web site's seat selection feature will *not* know that you are Elite and the Premium seats will not be offered to you.

DL does, however, permit you to add your CO FQTV number in the record when you check-in (either online or at the kiosk), but I never want to wait that long to get a good seat.

I fly DL relatively often and never remember actually receiving priority baggage tags, identification or first delivery. YMMV.

hahaha! I've noticed that with United too the other day. At least they seem to know what they are doing for the simplest matters.

They've changed the way it is done. Look at your bag tags the next time and it should say PRIORITY on the printed tag. Unfortunately it doesn't stand out for the ramp rats. I'm not familiar with how bags get routed to the plane so maybe the big PRIORITY tag really isn't needed.

I believe they only give the yellow tags on international flights over so many hours. I think I read that somewhere.

DL's web site sucks.

I won't go that far as it has some good features but I do agree not being able to enter SkyTeam FF numbers is a pain.

As has been said make the call. Here is the Medallion line though I'm not sure it will work that well for you since you won't have an Elite SkyMiles number for them to do a database dip on to see you are Elite and thus get you to the right agent (I never talk to India.)

You have to call before you check in.

Just got raised to $20 IIRC but not sure if it will stick.

Moral of the story... stick strictly with Continental.

Now wait a minute!!!
I wanted to try out the "new" Delta.
And, furthermore, one of my biggest reasons to fly Delta is to get onboard an MD-90. There are only sixteen of them in this country, and...guess what...none of them are in Continental's colors.

Furthermore, the itinerary I have booked is earning me more elite qualifying miles than anything Continental offered.
ANC-SLC-ATL-DFW is far further than ANC-SEA-IAH-DAL.
And if I am going to spend the entire day flying, I might as well save the $30 different in ticket prices, AND earn more EQM's!!!

I'm rooting for Delta to make a comeback.

But yes, normally I agree with you and fly only Continental.

On your BPs as well, under your name, it will say SkyTeam Elite on it, which should coincide with you getting no worse than Zone 3 boarding (which is the back of coach for elite members; non-elites have Zones 4-9).

Just use the number DeltaGator gave, or choose international award reservations if calling 800-221-1212 to get the FF number in there; you'll have a 99% chance of getting someone in the US (Delta's elite numbers occasionally go over to India when it's high call volume).

Thank you, all.
I called the Elite number, and talked with Jessica, a VERY helpful American woman.

I was able to add my OnePass number, and also to iron out a seat selection problem that the website coughed up.

I was overwhelmingly pleased with the phone call.

Now, the only disappointment that remains is the fact that Delta won't do SkyTeam elite complimentary upgrades.
Why on earth not? CO does.

There is no such thing as SkyTeam elite complimentary upgrades. CO, NW and Copa have an agreement amongst the three of them to upgrade each others' elites, but that is not related to SkyTeam status.

I had to call that number to have my WorldPerks number added to my reservation. Took a total of less than five minutes from I dialed the first digit until I was done. Very fast, efficient, and American.

My typical experience has been someone in India, but I will admit that the last two calls have also been efficiently handled with an American-sounding voice. Comparing my numerous, previous calls that were serviced by offshored call centers to the recent two services by American-sounding voices, I would rate the most recent two much higher.

I am not an ugly American -- nor do I fear globalization, it is just that it is typically easier to communicate with a native speaker of your native language than with someone who learned it later and doesn't understand the airline-specific terms. Are you listening DL and UA?

You can also request this by email, send a message clearly explaining your request with your record locator and your CO 1P number to: customer-care@delta.com

They can either update it for you or tell you to call. I find that 90% of easy stuff I need done, they can do in this fashion and give them 2 days or so to respond.
