Air Transat Replaces TriStars With A310s

Tue Aug 15, 2000 5:54 am

Although already reported, I can now add some information.

Air Transat has purchased 6 ex-Emirates A310-304s from Airbus, and delivery will be in December 2000. Another 2 will be delivered in the 2nd Quater of 2001, 1 in the 4th Quater of 2001 and the final 2 aircraft in the 2nd Quater of 2002.

At that point Air Transat expects to have a fleet of
6 A310-300
2 A330-200
1 A330-300
5 B757-200
6 L1011-500
3 L1011-100

The L1011-100s will all go by the end of 2003, but the -500s will be retained longer. The remaining TriStars will be replaced by a combination of more second-hand A310s and A330s.

The A310s will be reconfigured into charter layout, and will (obviously) not retain their 3-Class Emirates layouts with PTVs.

Its not fair. Maybe someone could put a preservation order on TriStars and then no one could get rid of them! Air Transat is the most regular operator of TriStars at Glasgow and if theirs are gone I don't know what I'm going to do. One of these days there is actually going to be NO TriStars left anywhere and that is a very horrible thought

Look, if we didn't retire old aircraft and build new ones, they we'd all be flying around the US in old DC-3's right now. But because of technology, we get to fly in the large, fast, comfortable, and economical 777's, and many other modern jets that now have accomadations such as PTV's.

Just a side note, the 6 310's will be reducing the 1011 fleet by 4 aircraft, so AT will have a net gain of 2 aircraft, or roughly keep the same capacity.

Replacing old aircrafts by old and uncomfortable
aircrafts...anyway that's charter world ! I've travelled this summer in an old A310 in maximum seats capacity
(Anatolia Airways...crappy company...) during a 3h30
flight hours....what a hell...what a hell...I thought we
were in an old meat can. So crossing the
Atlantic with that kind of aircraft ?? no way....

cheers,

ps: I missed DL Tristar's on BRU tarmac....

it's sad to see the TriStars going.. soon they will be all gone. what i don't understand is Lockheed knows that there L-1011s are being replace why don't they get there blue prints of the TriStar and come up with a new verison of this wonderfull aircraft. I just don't understand it. all they have to do is Ask the airlines if they would buy it I know Delta would! maybe we all need to write lockheed or something. maybe a few letters would get them thinking You never know!. where they made the Tristar in Palmdale,CA is still there and it's empty..

I don't think any airline nowadays is interested in reviving the production of the L1011 anyways.

With planes like the A332, A333, 763ER, 764ER, 772ER, and 773 offering at least the same seating capacity of the L1011-250 and range exceeding the L1011-500, why bother.

TS Lockheeds Gone

Hello,

I would like to get, if any of you do have these inforamtions, which aircrafts are being retired by Transat.
C-GTSK is already a a fantom in YMX, the body is still there, but it is completely ripped off from its major parts.
I suspect C-GTSX will go as well. (still the -100 version, unable to do trans-atlantic flights without a fuel stop)
Maybe C-FTNG, CGTSB ?

News For TS Tristar Fans....?

Mon Aug 21, 2000 8:46 am

In the most recent edition of YYZ News http://www.interlog.com/~rollers/pianews.html

"Air Transat have purchased two L-1011-500s from SriLankan, the first (MSN1235) has already been delivered and the second (MSN1236) is due in Sept/00. "

Is this a vote of confidence in their L-1011-500's to keep going?

Well if the L1011-1s will all go by the end of 2003, I think you can expect TS to have the -500 around at least until 2005 - they're younger and more useful because they can fly Non-Stop from Western Canada to Europe, but carry less than 300 passengers vs the A330 which carries approx. 360.
