Air Vatican Launch Charter Airline

Wed Aug 15, 2007 11:33 pm

I've heard on radio this morning that Air Vatican will take interests in Mistral Air, a subsidiary of the Italian Post and launch a dedicated low cost charter airline for catholic pilgrims all around Europe (Rome, Fatima, Lourdes, Medjugorje,...) and Jerusalem and Mexico as well. The aircrafts will wear Vatican official colors (White, Blue and Yellow) and '' I am searching for your face, Lord '' on them and everything on board linked to the religion. First flight will occur before the end of August to Lourdes (Tarbes Lourdes Pyrenees Airport) in France.

Any comment or more accurate information.

You'll know the pilots - they'll be the ones with "God is my co-pilot" stickers on their flight bags!

Should we address the stewardesses as "Miss" or "Sister" (tried to give up flying, but couldn't kick the habit!) ... Air marshals courtesy of the Christian Brothers (think Stasi without the same warmth).

As long as they keep flying the airplane! Last thing we need are pilots praying for a perfect outcome during an emergency or in IFR.
Good Luck to all Skyway Pilots! It's been great working with you!

I had no idea that the Vatican had an airline or could have one.
I would love to have a couple of their safety cards.

I wonder if they will auction off their inaugural flight on eBay?  Confused

What a shame that they did not buy off all the Concordes prior to their grounding. The Vatican is so wealthy that it could have been feasible financially speaking of course... I am not sure about the rest...

Do they intend to fly out of FCO or CIA? I think that the City State is too small for an airport.

For the incoming christian tourist to Vatican, they will use probably CIA as Mistral Air is based there for their postal services with B737-300 QC and BA146 Cargo.

As a Catholic myself, it'd be interesting to see a Catholic airline in service.

Interesting to say the least that the Vatican should want to have its own charter Airline.
I wonder how much traffic will be generated?

My God! (you should excuse the expression!) What in heaven's name (mea culpa) are they going to call it? The Flying Nun? (I date myself). Aria Maria? Gezundheit? FuorItalia? A frequent flier program? ("Jesus Saves" comes to mind)

And flight attendants? The thought of the uniforms boggles the mind, both for the women and the men.

Which is the preferred seat in the cockpit? Pilot or First Officer (agnus deum qui sedes am dexteram patris)?

And will the aircraft require emergency exits?

Hopefully this doesn't go any further than a rumor on the radio..

I have a feeling they are going to be asking for more charitable donations in church when I return to the States in a few weeks. I admit I am one of the few church going Roman Catholics left.. What are we to do when fuel costs go up? Place coin operated holy water dispensers in church? Or charge entrance fees to Midnight Mass?

HI!

I hope (PRAY?) we never hear:

"Lets pray for our souls so we can reach our destiny..."

Will their P/As be in English, Italian and Latin?

Or if they arrive 30 mins late you will have absolution?

(Only joking)

Lets, sit and see if that announcement comes to a Holy True...

I saw a piece on CNN on this airline this morning. Apparently the charter flights will be done during the day, with postal sacks in the cabin at night, gaining better use of the aircraft. The fares will be about 10% less that regular airlines, offer direct services, limited IFE with programing not including most 'Hollywood' movies, standard looking f/a attire. I wonder if the pre-flight safety talk also includes a prayer for travelers  Smile . I think it is a win-win idea for the operator and the pax-customers.

This is the 21st century (AD) folks! I cannot believe that you can get an airline set up for the religious market in EUROPE! May be my European friends have forgotten the dark ages. Anyway, I wonder if they will have restriction on Sunday flying ( a la El Al). In the seat pockets, there would not be any need for the safety briefing cards, as the passengers will not be believing the laws of physics, but rather in miracles! There will be, of course, a Bible (and the barf bag).
Really, this is one of the funniest aviation-related developments I have heard in years.

It seems like they already started service and are already in trouble with security, at least the passengers. Security officers in Lourdes did not give their blessing (no pun intended) to people who wanted to take home some of the holy water for which Lourdes has become so famous. The reason is that the holy water cannot be treated preferencially and thus it was treated as a security threat, just like any other liquid.

There will be a set of Rosary beads issued instead of IFE , and naturally the unaccompanied minors will get special attention from the priests.... As far as food and beverages go there will be unleavened bread or the Blood of Christ, and excess luggage won't be charged with money but by guilt, the recitation of 10 'hail Marys'. failure to comply will result in eternal damnation....
