KE In MAD

Thu Aug 16, 2007 1:44 am

I was wondering how KE was doing in MAD. At first, I thought the newly introduced flight was going to be a seasonal one but KE is in MAD to stay. Anybody has any insight on their performance so far?

AFAIK, it's a 1xweek no-stop ICN-MAD-ICN on a 772 3-class configuration,

Wondering how do they fill the forward cabin (F/J) with a weekly flight......

I wonder the same. Maybe they have a codeshare on AF's MAD-CDG flights and passengers who are not flexible in terms of dates have to be content with flying one stop one of their legs.
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738

Nope, actually it's 3x week MON / THU / SAT

During the whole week is possible to get AF (MAD-CDG) then connecting KE (CDG-ICN) as code share operation.
Some other possibilities are currently available on Skyteam network from MAD to ICN.

No information how KE is doing on MAD route yet, but what I found is that KE didn't do any fare promotion when launching this route. (or they may did very weak promotion.) So not many tourists there, which means high yield. I believe KE is confident with it. And the schedule will be a little bit better on the winter schedule.

My bad, I got confused because departure time is different on THU (1410) than MON and SAT (1550).

AF/KE codeshare on a double daily ICN-CDG and there is also a 6xweekly ICN-AMS so there are plenty and more flexible options for SKY members to do ICN-CDG than via MAD.

What surprises me is that every attempt to fly Spain-China (much larger market than Korea and much stronger business ties) has failed or have had to be combined (like Air China is doing now) and all of a sudden we have this MAD-ICN.

Wondering whether MAD-NRT will be flown again in the future (IB did it in the 80's) with JL entrance into OW, today it seems unlikely because JL is shrinking and IB is so focused on LatAm and US.

China doesn't have a large connecting hub. Seoul is a huge connecting hub, and offers a significant amount of connections throughout Korea, Japan, China, and Asia in general. Seoul supports non-stop service to many smaller long-haul markets thanks to it's awesome connectivity.

KE operates ICN-AMS 3 x week A332, 3-class, old cabins.

100% correct. ICN is an efficient hub and KE has wide connectivity.

Air China is managing to fly PEK-MAD because the flight continues to GRU, which provides yields and loads to the operations.

Not saying you're wrong, but don't you think JL or CX would've better chance than KE to succeed in Spain considering MAD is a OW hub? NRT and HKG are also large hubs.

I meant other options for SKY members like KL744M 6xweek ICN-AMS, you're right, I missed KE ICN-AMS 3xweek so there are even more options for SKY members out of CDG to ICN.

The fare promotion is/was at the KE's European web page.

I hope so  Smile I'd like see KE serving MAD as a stable station.

 checkmark

That's a good reason for KE to make a try serving Madrid-Barajas.

IB makes codeshare with both, JL and CX at AMS. Right now that's enough.

And remember this time is not the first one for KE at Barajas.

That was not my point... obviously CDG-ICN has plenty of non-stop service, as both airports are hubs of two SkyTeam carriers. My point had to do with your comment that non-daily service might not be good for business travelers and, so, if a South Korean business traveler wants to reach MAD, for the days when there is no service, he can still fly KE or AF ICN-CDG and then AF CDG-MAD (or viceversa) with a KE ticket.

Or with an AF ticket, it doesn't matter which.

In fact, the most used way to fly Spain-South Korea is via CDG. Also is via FRA with LH but it's less.

Anyway, I hope KE can go on flying MAD 3x week, and at least be a complementary for the twice daily MAD-CDG-ICN route.

I agree, KE must be confident with the MAD route or they wouldn't have reintroduced it in the winter schedule, but how is the winter schedule better than the summer?

There are connections via PRG as well. All Czech Airlines flight have between PRG and MAD have also flight no. for KE.
KE operates 4 times a week between PRG and ICN on A330.
