Delta MD-90 Seat Cloth Mismatch

Sun Aug 19, 2007 2:35 am

I came along this photo:

and noticed that one of the seats on this Delta MD-90 has a different-colored cloth than the rest of the seats. That oddball seat appears to still have the pre-200 cloth.

How would Delta forget to install the new cloth on that seat? I assume it has now been fixed as all of the MD-90s now have the leather interior with the Airfones removed.

Maybe somebody threw up on that seat  vomit   Smile, and the only replacement parts they had had the old cloth?

I doubt it. Good thing Delta is switching to leather.

Perhaps the old seat might have been damaged, and the only spares Delta might have had the old cloth. All of the MD-90s now have the leather interior, so I assume it has been fixed.

Here is a photo of the MD-90 with the old blue and gray cloth:

Basically you have your seat, and your seat bottom (cushion). There are two peices of the fabric, one that goes over the back of the seat (we call it the "seatback") and one that goes over the cushion ("seat bottom"). When one gets gum on it and/or puked on and/or spilled on and/or stained etc in any way that's noticeable, usually the groomers will see that as they are grooming the aircraft, and pull the fabric off (attaches via velcro strips) and go find a new one and slide in on. However, it could be a case similar to our Hawkers where different aircraft may have the same seats but a different colour fabric. When this happens we do our best to match the colour, but sometimes it just doesn't work out that way, and we have to steal one from the bin for another aircraft, and use that untill we find one the proper colour for that aircraft.

Wait... did you just doubt the possibility of his answer... then propose the exact same answer?

No, I mean't that the old seat might have been broken. Just because a seat was vomited on doesn't mean it is broken.

Actually, yes, if a seat is vomited on, it IS broken.
Blood born pathogens, bodily fluids, etc. That seat cushion must be changed, or cleaned and sterilized on the ramp. Changing the cushion takes far less time.

You should check your attitude; telling him he's wrong, that the seat probably wasn't damaged, and then saying that maybe the seat WAS damaged is exactly as MDorBUST has pointed out to you.

I was only doubting that the seat was vomited on. I wasn't denying that the seat was damaged.

Could we please get to the subject?

I continue to be amazed with the topics that you come up with.

As pointed out by others, the seat cushion probably needed replacement on short notice and DL used whatever cushion that they had available.

THE very first thing that came to my mind as well.....!!!! LoL...!! Too many years changing vomit soaked seat covers I guess...!!

The subject is "why is that seat cover miss matched'....... the reason as stated by several people that work in the business... and our best guess... someone threw up on it and the cover was changed.

Looks like the subject has been covered by no fewer than five replies, not counting your own multiple replies to your own thread...

I was only doubting that the seat was vomited on.

I kind of apologize for going down the vomit track! I really meant to say that the seat was somehow stained and it needed replacement. But a close friend recently told me a story about getting on a plane and a passenger near him threwing up violently all over his (his, not my friend's thankfully) seat which caused the flight to be delayed because the ground crew had to change his seat cushions (and throw him out of the plane too of course...). So, that story prompted me to mention the vomit... but, as you can see, it turns out that it's not such an unusual occurence!

I've been on a jetway when groomers/MX folks have come off the plane with vomit-covered leather seat covers as well... just because it's leather doesn't mean people aren't going to barf on it  Wink

Fascinating, isn't it? He continually comes up with stuff that only he sees and which none of us, let alone any pax on Delta, would even give a damn about. But oh well, I guess Delta hasn't changed its PSU's in a few weeks, so he had to find another topic  Wink .

I'm guardedly watching the Trip Reports forum for mention of someone flying this plane and stating it being "famous for having a mismatched headrest cover."
