United hasn't flown this in the past, since they routed traffic through DEN.

AA has flown this ski route for several years with a 757.

When is this going to be bookable, I just checked and wasn't available yet. Also, AA flew the 737 for many years and just recently changed a few years ago to the 757. They have always flow the 757 from DFW to HDN though.

Correct, AA used to fly ORD-HDN with a 738, however when they pulled to 738 from ORD they switched the route over to a 757. It was their only option at that point, despite the increase in capacity since an MD-80 wasn't viable for mountain winter weather ops.

United will still route a vast majority of traffic xxx-DEN-HDN, so they CR7 just give another option for Chicago based passengers to have nonstop, and Chicago-only spokes to have single-connection service on xxx-ORD-HDN.

The following site gives the complete list of flights for HDN this winter.

http://www.steamboatresorts.com/gett...here/gettinghere.byair.flights.asp

Should be a nice flight from ORD in a CR7.

Not bad but AA and NW fly bigger aircraft into there.

UA on the 15th of December will resume seasonal mainline service to and from DEN with a daily 737 and add a couple of CRJ-700s in addition to the normal Dash-8s on this particular route.

Also I am kind of surprised myself that UA did not launch this new seasonal ORD - HDN -ORD with mainline equipment like 737s or Airbuses since I am certain that they could do quite well with them too. The 737 that they operate to DEN in the winter almost always runs full.

As is common, they will see how it develops and if warranted in the future, it may go mainline I guess.

They are doing a pretty good job getting them on other ski area flights. Why not this one?

Likely because they can route traffic over DEN into HDN, with better frequencies throughout the day from most of the major East Coast markets.

I've been in a CRJ bin and they aren't that big. I wonder if the skis have to go in diagonally.

This is a CRJ-700. It has under floor bins to hold such items as skis and golf bags. You are thinking of the -200, in which, you would be correct.

i was unaware that the CRJ7 had such impressive mountain performance... given that a previous post said AA never used MD80 on the route because of performance issues.

I think CRJ7 would be fine for this route, though a 737-500 would be nicer.

The regular CRJ-700 can take off in 5,130ft and the CRJ-200 ER can take off in 5,800ft per the Bombardier web site both on std day at sea level. Not sure how the high altitude performance varies.

The CRJ-700 has a more advanced wing with leading edge flaps.

That's correct. SkyWest has been very successful with CR7's on other ski destination so this one is a piece of cake.
DEN BZN
ORD BZN
LAX ASE
SFO ASE
DEN ASE
etc.........
These routes plus a few more has not been a problem for OO getting on all bags and ski's unless weather come into factor.

Does AA still operate an ORD to HDN route? I know that they used to with either a 757 or an MD80.
