Swiss Aviation Thread 12 - Follow-up!

Tue Aug 21, 2007 1:01 am

As the previous Thread 12 was accidentally locked, here it's follow up. The first attempt remained rather firmly on the ground, lets make this one take-off!!

Thanks for the info charles, btw: how come JMJ was painted in the UK, are prices the same for both ZRH and UK for painting?

According to DPTS, Belle Air has announced its intention to operate during the whole winter a twice weekly GVA-PRN service with its MD-82.

I have a few questions re LX's Avros:

1. Have the 4 RJ85s left the fleet yet?
2. Will the RJ85s be replaced by more RJ100s? I seem to recall an earlier thread that seemed to indicate they would be replaced to keep the total Avro fleet at 24 but forget the details. If they don't replace them, how will this affect the current schedule since they are already contracting out certain routes to other carriers (Cirrus, Helvetic, Flightline)?
3. How many RJ100s now have the new lightweight Recaro seats?

I wouldn't hold my breath. Belle Air has the habit of announcing routes that it never starts, or canceling them right after. Although demand is larger from PRN, it's strange that GVA is being served from PRN as opposed to TIA, since Belle Air has no flights to either GVA or PRN currently. This means that they will either have to serve GVA from TIA as well, or most likely start flights from TIA to PRN.

that's good news much earlier than expected, they planned by feb 2008 or so to have the entire Avro fleet with the new seats. The rest of the RJ85's ayway are gone by the end of the year with I gues a replacement of 4 RJ100's?

BTW: Anybody know why LX008 to ORD on HB-IQO (A332) got cancelled today?

It made a hard landing due to strong winds and is now "Substantially damaged". Look at http://www.baz.ch/news/index.cfm?sta...C9B9349-1422-0CEF-7051677AB8036AF6 (German only) or the accident report http://www.bfu.admin.ch/common/pdf/HB-IYU.pdf

I gues that the aircraft is currently out of service has no affect on the operations as the avro fleet is currently anyway not operating to it's maximum cacpaity due to flight personal shortage?

Things may have changed dramatically in the last few weeks, but I have my doubts.... By the end of July there were only four RJ100 with the new seats. That's four out five ex BA a/c. HB-IYR, IYS, IYT and IYU (the one with the hard landing in LCY) are all equipped with the new Recaro seats. IYV is the last ex BA still flying in cosy 3-3 config (at least it still was at the end of July). All of the original RJ100 are yet to be reconfigured.... Not sure what the schedule is but I am sure IYV will receive the new seats soon...

Cheers,
Christian

I doubt also that if they scheduled to complete the refurbishment of the seats by Feb 2008 they suddenly finished it that much earlier. Although as the Avro fleet isn't used to maximum capacity they might as well do the job faster.

Hey guys, the legendary Terassen-fest will take place from today until sunday, like every year. Again, the bustour will be for free and one will be able to sta yat the intersection spot as long as possible (if it's the same as every year). Also there's special tours through SRTechnics and a lot more, you can check it out here:

http://www.flughafen-zuerich.ch/ZRH/..._level3=468&t=Terrassenfest&a3=468

I'll definately be there on either saturday or sunday (sunday more likely).

Anyone fancy a little meet-up on either of the two days? Would be a good opportunity.

Edit: The weather seems to cooperate aswell, sun and 25-28C forecasted  bigthumbsup

Carpatair to TSR 3/w
Estonian to TLL 3/w
Air Berlin to NUE 2/w (from Nov 1)
LX to DEL 1/d (from Nov 25)

anything to add ?

In the NZZ of today (August 24) on page 25 there is a short note that Swiss will takeover 100% of the shares of Swiss Aviation Training. This is the company which runs the simulators. Till now 50% belonged to GCAT Flight Academy UK. I think this was since the Swissair bankruptcy. The company will be lead by Manfred Brennwald, the former Swiss COO.
They also say that the collaboration with LH will be interesting for the company.
These are good news and supports the expansion.

I think the inbound flight of ORD was cancelled last night due to bad weather in ORD not sure though. That exact aircraft was tech 2 days ago so probably not tech this time.

HB-IQG went tech in Riyad / Jeddah due to that JNB once again was cancelled tonight and reschedulled for tomorow morning as an A340 was sent to JFK today. What's wrong with HB-IQG?

LX 8 diverted to DTW last night due to tornado warnings and heavy storms in the Chicago metropolitan area. I don't know if and when it eventually got into ORD but its likely that the return has been cancelled.

I don't think it's a technical.

Update:

Apparently one LX A332 went tech away form home somewhere, hence LX8 was cancelled.

And my dad witnessed LX A343 HB-JMF having a birdstrike on engine 2 today while climbing out of runway 16, however it seems like they decided to continue the flight, they didn't even contact the MCC. Could have been a small bird, but it flamed and banged pretty nicely Big grin

that would be the flight from Jeddah / Riyahd which was cancelled, so at one of those 2 stations it went tech then.

Probably one of those; Sicma Aero Space, Recaro or B/E Aerospace. Who manufactured the current seats on the A343s?
