US 737 And A320 Usage

Tue Aug 21, 2007 1:21 am

I fly from BDL to RSW at least once and sometimes twice a year; I usually fly US because they seem to offer the best schedule and prices. I try and book 737's (or 757's, if available) being the ardent Boeing fan that I am; last March I flew down via CLT, and all flights on one segment were 737's and the other segment were all A320's (I don't remember which was which). I just booked another flight for October, and all segments were on 737's for all available flights (except for a few that were regional jets.) I am flying via CLT on the outbound flight and back via PHL, and I did not see an A320 on any of the options available. I thought US was phasing the 737's out; what gives? Also, I am flying this week to CLT; originally I was scheduled to return on a 757 but it was changed to a CR9. The trip down is on a 737, but when I booked it a couple of months ago there were flights on an A320 available.

Much of the east coast flying is on the 737 with the exception of Florida routes which see mainly airbus and 757's.
All transcons are on the A32S's with a few 757's here and there.
Look for most of the 737's to be gone around 2012 as th 60+ A320's come in to replace them...
Some of the secondary FL airports are starting to see service from CLT downgraded to Express flying by Mesa on the CR9

Actually, the 737 is the mainstay to most Florida airports during the low season. PBI historically has been an all 400 station in the summer (not this year due to LAS flight), MIA is usually an all 300 station (due to landing fees associated with aircraft weight) and RSW also reverts to 737's. Only FLL, TPA and MCO see larger ships in the summer.

Also, keep in mind that last winter they were busy turning the East Airbus fleet into West "standards".

Flew PBI-CLT two weeks ago. Outbound to CLT 737-400 return into PBI was an HP 320. The 734 was tired, dirty and really needed a complete cleaning. The 320 was in great shape. Wish me got more of them instead of the 737's.

Just curious... What's US doing with the A321's? Last week my gf flew SFO-PHL and I was surprised it was an 320 rather than the 321. I remember about a month or so ago all the transcon flights from SFO were 321 now they seem to be just 320's. Is US using the 321 on shorter routes? to Florida and/or Carribean? Or did HP tell them to get rid of them in favor of more 757?
