AA Expands Service From LAX

Wed Aug 16, 2000 2:26 am

AA will begin 2x daily non-stop LAX-YYZ service on November 1 using 737-800's. This is just the latest AA international expansion move at LAX. They already serve the international destinations of LHR, CDG, and GDL from LAX.

AA has also filed a petition with the government to stop UA from gaining a non-stop LAX-Los Cabos, Mexico flight. AA argues that UA already has a non-stop on this route through its codeshare with Mexicana. AA is petitioning that it be granted this route.

So, AA when will you call LAX a hub? With 75 daily Eagle flights and 127 daily AA flights, LAX certainly has the traffic (both connecting and O/D) to be considered a "hub". That is not even counting the 15 daily codeshares on international airlines out of LAX.

Come on AA, bite the bullet.

Not in the forseeable future.

Not even close to true AA hub statistics.

>That is not even counting the 15 daily codeshares

Not even a consideration.

Highly unlikely. American's hubs are massive. DFW has 750 combined flights a day (Eagle + AMR), O'Hare is huge, and Miami is a big hub, although the number is under 300. American is growing its LAX operations to do battle with UA and Southwest in the West, but I don't think they will officially call it a hub. As for United, many flights from SFO were transferred to LAX by UA in order for UA to call LAX a hub.
