AC To Increase YOW Service By 10% This Winter

Thu Aug 23, 2007 5:05 am

Those of you who wished for more service from AC in YOW just got it. Besides the already known flights to CUN, MBJ and LAS, AC just announced new routes to the Maritimes.....

http://micro.newswire.ca/release.cgi...ey=1508229166&view=13213-0&Start=0

Here are the new flights for the winter season.

Ottawa - Fredericton (5x weekly Dash 8-100, starts October 28)

Ottawa - Moncton (daily CRJ, starts October 28)

Ottawa - St. John's (daily E190, starts October 28)

Ottawa - Las Vegas (2x weekly, starts September 6)

Ottawa - Montego Bay (weekly E190, starts December 22)

Ottawa - Cancun (weekly E190, starts December 22)

Increase in service on the following routes....

Ottawa - Vacouver (3x daily)

Ottawa - Calgary (3x daily)

Ottawa - Edmonton (2x daily)

Ottawa - London (ON) (2x daily)

Ottawa - Boston (4x daily)

All in all, 10% more departure service from AC this winter compared to last from YOW. Pretty impressive.

All due to the number of E190's receieved this year. The bird is perfect for midsized markets like YOW.

Yes! It is pretty impressive! I nearly fell off my chair when I read about the additional frequencies and new routes!
Hurray for YOW!

Great for YOW. I like the ability to go from YXU to YOW instead of having to travel through YYZ all the time. (I realize they have always had a flight, but hopefully this new service will only be the start)  bigthumbsup

I think it's great that we're finally getting YQM-YOW. It won't be hard to fill a 50-seat CRJ.

It's also great that after several years YFC-YOW is being reinstated (it used to be operated by Air Nova).
Next flights: YQM-YYZ-YOW v.v. / YQM-CUN v.v. / YQM-YUL-YWG v.v. / YSJ-YYZ-SEA-SFO / SFO-YYZ-YOW-YQM / YQM-YYZ-MUC-TXL /

With all the late afternoon departures, a lot of politicians are going to be especially happy with AC.

I'm curious about the YOW-YYT route. Has it ever been operated as a daily scheduled non-stop flight before(any carrier)?

I believe Canjet operated the flight but with a stop in YHZ.

I'm particularly impressed with the 4x Daily YOW-BOS. The yields must be really improving because not too long ago, QK couldn't fill a single DH8. I wonder if any of those 4 flights will be with AC mainline or are they keeping it strictly Jazz. Anyone know?

Regardless, This is good news for AC!

The YYC-YOW-YYT routing seems to be the most innovative new route for AC this winter. It offers the shortest routing between YYC and YYT versus connecting in YHZ or YYZ.

Thats awesome YOW and CUN using the E190. Are there any other airlines from the USA flie to any cities in Mexico using the EMB190/170s? I think AC will be the first to operate the EMB to Mexico

I know that this route was operated in 2000-2001 using DC-9 equipment. However, I think there was a stop in YHZ, but I'm not positive. I'm sure there have been other similar routes in the past as well, but I'm not too sure of the dates.
YOW is a very popular destination from YYT, and it's nice to see the route coming back.

Of course it is, so many people looking for hand-outs from the gov't.  Big grin Of course if the oil deals help the province it will be Ottawa holding out it's hand when they come visiting. Look for poor loads on the flights then.  Embarrassment

Great to see AC trying to grow YOW, 10% is quite the hike. Too bad there is no new internationals service to report.

I had a quick look on aircanada.ca, and all 4 flights will be with CRJ for the winter.

Probably fastest since it's a direct flight, but not quite the shortest mileage.

WestJet in their early eastern Canada expansion days operated YOW-YYT one-way about 3 times/week for about a year, but no YYT-YOW return - very odd eh! The return was via YHM.

Currently the only AC mainline transborder flights are the new LAS flights starting next week and the winter-seasonal MCO and FLL routes.

Yup, it was a 1-stop, same-plane service via YHZ - operated that way for years. Even YUL-YYT was 1-stop via YHZ back then, now look at how it's 3x/day in the summer months.

MBJ and CUN winter seasonals...it's definitely a start. There's still time for transatlantic someday.  Smile

This new sked looks great.
YFC - depart YOW 18:45 / arrive YOW 07:55
YQM - depart YOW 19:25 / arrive YOW 07:55
YYT - depart YOW 18:55 / arrive YOW 07:45

These new flights connect nicely to/from YYC, the new YEG flights, YVR and YXU & to and/or from a couple of US destinations as well, and there's also YHZ flights at above the above times of the day.

YHZ - depart YOW 18:40 & 19:55 / arrive YOW 07:50

These 3 new routes along with the increases on existing routes will definitely greatly strenghen AC's YOW route network and increase the number of pax connecting at YOW further strengthening their long-term viability.

These new flights will hopefully help YOW sustain the airport's monthly 8-10% pax growth number for the next 12-15 months.

The 1-stop YYT-YOW-YYC should mean AC will have no problem filling YOW-YYT. YYT-YYC will probably easily get 20 pax per flight on average and the above connections will probably add another 10-15 on average. I remember when at C6, they along used to average about 30 enplaned YOW-YYT pax per day, so getting 50-60 nonstop pax shouldn't be a problem most days, especially with the traffic stimulation the nonstops will produce.

BTW, here are the flight times of the new YXU, YYC, YEG and YVR flights, which weren't loaded into the res system right away:

Eff Oct 28/07
YOW-YXU AC7721 1610-1730 CRJ
YXU-YOW AC7712 1800-1905 CRJ

Capacity increase on route = 122%

The YXU-YWG CRJ route appears to be getting the axe, which begs the question, where's that CRJ going after it reaches YXU? All YXU-YYZ flights are still shown as DH8s.

Eff Oct 29/07
YOW-YVR AC1165 2005-2240 320
YVR-YOW AC1164 1140-1910 320

1 of 2 existing flights is downgauged to a 320 from a 321. Capacity increase on route = 34%

Eff Oct 28/07
YOW-YYC AC131 1430-1720 E90
YYC-YOW AC118 1315-1918 E90

All flights will be on E90s vs 319/320 last winter. The new flights continue onto YYT, so with through YYC-YYT traffic, capacity is essentially unchanged.

Eff Oct 28/07
YOW-YEG AC0193 0850-1118 E90
YEG-YOW AC1180 1250-1843 E90

Still not clear if the original AC104/143 remains a 320 like last winter or is downgauged to an E90. Capacity will increase by at least 30%

Eff Oct1/07
YOW-BOS AC8042 1020-1139 CRJ
BOS-YOW AC8045 1215-1330 CRJ

Capacity increase = approx. 33%
