CO 73Gs At SNA

Out of curiosity, I've wondered why CO grounds a 73G (700) at SNA at around noon. They have done this for awhile. It used to be a 735. Why wouldn't they fly one more route to EWR or IAH. Or start-up SNA-CLE? I'm guessing that it might have to do with the slots at SNA, but the early afternoon is when you see the most gates open. The North Terminal typically will have up to 5 gates open between 1-3 pm. Also, wouldn't they be paying a fairly steep price to leave a 737 on the ground a SNA for up to 18 Hours?

I would imagine it has something to do with curfew and just wanting to make sure that they have a plane for the 6:45AM flight as well as being able to get their last flight out before curfew.

My guess is that by doing this, if there is a late arrival from IAH or EWR that would make turning around to depart before night curfew impossible, CO can sub in this 73G that's sitting there, and then RON the late arriving plane instead. If everything goes to plan, then they don't need to. Sort of like flying in a "spare" every day...

Again, just a guess.

According to the current schedule I see, CO has 4 RON aircraft that depart at 0645, 0740, 0815 and 0859. There are 5 turnarounds, 1047-1140, 1149-1240, 1358-1445 and 1451-1540. One of several arrivals (1634, 1915, 2014, 2016) can turn to the 2115 to EWR. The other 3 RON and are joined by at 2231 arrival to make the 4 RONing aircraft.

Maybe they RON an aircraft midweek around noon in non-peak season or on Saturday??
