YYC Announcement Shortly.(rumor)

Thu Aug 23, 2007 9:34 pm

Not sure who or if it is just a service increase. It will be a ''overseas'' destination according to rumors...No idea but if anyone else knows let us know.

P.S.
Nothing to do with the Emirates rumor...

Oh man way to make me almost spit coffee onto my screen first thing in the morning!

Rumours over at another website that has nothing to do with aviation(skyscrapers actually) have some thoughts of perhaps KLM to AMS.

Thoughts?

I too would like an answer to this as well, I hate not even knowing how long the wait is!

I bet KLM to AMS, unless it is just another charter announcement (not that, that is bad).

Are they still doing that bad delay wize in YYC? I check YHM arrivals and departures every once in a while to keep up and they seem to have fixed whatever was causing all the delays in Hamilton for the most part. A lot of the time they are even early.

I agree, but would much rather see a scheduled carrier announcement. Even better if it is a new tail around YYC and not an airline that we already see here. Purely from an enthusiasts point of view however.  Smile

Considering KLM used to fly to YYC in the 80's and dropped it, would they return?

If they can make money on it, why not? We are positively booming out here in Alberta right now, BA is doing good on their run to LHR from here(from what I've heard) and the airport is constantly out there selling itself to other carriers around the globe.

I can't recall the previous reasons for KLM leaving YYC, probably due to the slowdown in the oil patch at the time. Wiser minds feel free to enlighten me if I'm mistaken.

The reason why I bet KLM is because Martinair has been trying to enter YEG and YYC as a scheduled service over the years. KLM has been rumoured in around both Alberta authorities frequently over the past 12 mths. I believe that KLM officials even visited both airports in 2007...anyone else can confirm? I know LH officials did as well.

MP has applied for scheduled service for the past two years to YEG and YYC,so KLM could be a logical choice.the AMS to Alberta market is large.

KLM would be successful in the market. I just wonder how Air Canada would react with the FRA route? Last time this year we heard about BA and AC increasing the LHR routes from YYC and YEG? Is it now KLM's turn to stir the pot in Alberta?

What would AC have to do? It's competition. AC already flies to FRA, and in due course the route will be served by renovated 767-300s, renovated A330-300s and/or new 777s. That's the plan - to put new or refurbished aircraft onto all routes in FRA and LHR. Whereas BA has a better reputation than it deserves because of LHR, KL will cater to the price-sensitive more than the service-oriented folk, and AC is certainly able to hold its own with KL on that score. Of course, another possibility is a YYC-MUC flight on LH, codeshared by AC.

AMS would be awesome for we who fly to the middle east. It's almost directly on the polar route and would be a great alternative to FRA and LHR. I bet they would do a ton of business especially with how screwed up LHR is.

Y'know...I've often thought that Reykjavik would make a great hub. It would break up those middle east to N.America flights nicely. On the other hand, I've also thought that mixing beer and sambuka was a good idea, which as it turns out, isn't.

Any new service is appreciated, but lets hope it is a new airline!

I'd love to see KLM as well, a great alternative to LHR and the AC/LH exorbitant pricing. The latter is not always true, but ...

At any rate, how do AMS taxes on fares compare to those of LHR and FRA?

Hmm, it won't be asian carriers just yet.
However it should be promising as always since this is Calgary and this city must have some crazy trick up its sleeves to lure big airlines to do business.
For me, I dont think it will be KLM either, definetly an International Airline forsure and by the hype and rumours it ain't going to be another charter carrier.. Thank god. So hopefully it will be a globally renowned airline.

Not going to be LH to FRA. As far as YYC-MUC..could be. Negotiated with Star Alliance considerations, all city pairs except YYZ (because of traffic volumes) are split between the two carriers.

LH - YVR/FRA
AC - YYC/FRA
AC - YYZ/FRA & YYZ/MUC
LH - YYZ-FRA (YYZ-DUS - 2008)
AC - YUL-FRA
LH - YUL-MUC

My money is on KLM. The time is right to return to YYC.

Agree, with Martinair trying to go scheduled on the AMS-YEG-YYC and AMS-YYC-YEG flights it would point to a strong market and demand.MP has not been granted the right but KL...Maybe,just maybe.

So what are we considering the frontrunners here? KL to AMS and LH to MUC?

In 1980 oil prices were about $35 per barrel and Calgary was Canad's fastest growing city. By 1986 oil was $10 per barrel adn Alberta was, like TX/LA/OK, in a deep recession.

With oil exploration going full bore, I do see the potential for a AMS-YYC again, that conects the North Sea, Alberta and has good connections beyone AMS.

If it is KL, and the reason is oil, is there any potential for KLM to fly YHZ-AMS??

Can a 738 fly AMS-YHZ, cuz I think a daily A330 would be overkill. a 757 sized aircraft would be just right.

I wouldnt say Halifax/Nova Scotia/the Maritimes are anywhere near where alberta is right now with the oil. Sure they jsut signed a big deal the other day, but alberta is going ballistic right now.

KL has already operated at YOW-YHZ-AMS route and dropped it because it didn't make money.

The region of northern Alberta, northwest British Columbia and and the south of the N.W.T all have major projects on the go right now,not to mention Alberta has the largest current oil reserves (yes larger than Saudi Arabia) puts the province in a win win situation for the next several years.

So if the route is KL from YYC-AMS what kind of equipment would we most likely see on the route?

Same question for LH operating YYC-MUC.

330's?

Umm, don't they have to still get the bilateral agreements and all that worked on before that could happen?

Plus EK has plans to announce their intention to serve YYC when they come through here late September on their 'Global Roadshow'.

Lastly, did you read the first post man? It says this rumour has nothing to do with the EK one.

Cheers!

The current bilateral makes no provision for freighter ops that don't come out of the six weekly frequencies available to UAE carriers. Therefore, you are correct. They need to conclude a new bilateral first, and then go through the application process.

I should point out that currently, the CTA has no filings with respect to new Calgary services on its website and it's getting late in the game to start selling any new intercontinental passenger service for the winter schedule. Therefore, even if a carrier stated its intentions today, it may take a month until it has the authority to sell a new route. So, more likely, any announcement re: Calgary would be for a 2008 start.

Falcon7x: Is this "rumor" specifically to do with YYC, or might it also include YEG - either alone or in conjunction with YYC? I wouldn't expect you to do divulge too many clasified details such as the actual airline involved, but I am curious.

Does anyone know if the LTU charter flight from EDDL to YEG ever started as planned. There was talk of it this past winter being a once a week operation thorugh the summer.
