Mon Aug 27, 2007 7:38 pm

Udvar-Hazy is so unhappy with Airbus these days that he is decided to rename the planes  Smile
Unfortunate cut and paste mistake.

So the aircraft involved is a former AC A340-313 - C-FTNQ.

Any clue about new routes for IB?

Besides the aditional 3xweek MAD-BOG starting in January, no new long haul announced yet.

Have heard rumours about DFW, LAX, MTY, CLO (gone away with the increase on BOG).

I'm surprised that AC would get rid of an aircraft they just painted, did they reject the lease on it or what?

They are starting to receive their replacement 77Ls and 77Ws, so the A340s are starting to be phased out.

Aircraft are painted on a set schedule, usually for corrosion control. Each airline is different, since they have their homes in different climates.

Strangly , this frame (CN 88) was allocated to Iberia by Airbus , before delivery , and went to ILFC / ACA instead........

IB is still looking for new US gateways, they chose IAD and BOS this year, DFW and/or LAX will be next, it's not a matter of if but when, might be next year or a few years down the road.

And also, will that A340 be operated directly by IB or will it be operated for IB by Audeli?

I would not be surprised if more Floridia cities are added.

The operation of all remaining 757s and A340s will be taken by IB mainline crew. The contract with Audeli (Gestair) will come to an end shortly.

Is there a market for that? I mean, the only big market in Florida IB has is MIA, which has in fact suffered from one cutback of sorts, which was the closure of the MIA hub in 2004. The MIA hub was operated by IB for connecting to destinations in Central America, but with the US demanding transit visas for passengers from non-visa waiver countries, they decided to close the MIA hub in favour of the direct flights to Central America that are now being operated.

If they want to operate more leisurely routes like MCO or SFB, or if they want to restart that feeder service they used to have with the MIA hub but from FLL or TPA (with subsequent new flights out of MAD), they could, but then again, IB is an airline more oriented to business passengers, which cannot magically make US immigration rules for non-visa waiver PAX disappear for a new feeder service to and from the US, and unless they can find a market, more flights to other Florida cities are probably out of the question. Feeder flights can be done nowadays through codesharing with AA and maybe also TA, and for leisure flights, UX and A7 could make it happen.

Thanks. How long did that contract even run?

I know that Iberia was looking for two more A340-600s to lease but I'm guessing they can't find any so instead are going for more A340-300s.

I don't see any other destination in Florida that Iberia would be interested. Miami does quite well.

Not over here!

Anyone know if it will receive the full IB paint or run around on a hybrid for a while?

BTW:

So does this mean that EC-IDF and EC-IIH will return to IB mainline crew? I recall reading somwhere that these were only used on the HAV route (or at least one) because it was an Audeli crew/route destintation. I never saw IDF in SJO since IB re-started flights with the 343 back in 2004 and IIH only once. According to Airfleets, IIH went to Audeli the 7th of June 2006 while IDF went the 28th of June 2006.

EC-GPB was also with Audeli but its back to IB since 30/5/2007 and I've seen it twice in July & August at SJO.

Regards!
Tomas.

I'm sure the aircraft will be painted into full Iberia colors.

I believe both or one of the A340-300 aircraft that had been moved over to Audeli had been returned to Iberia crew when EC-KCL arrived? However I'm sure EC-IDF, EC-IIH, and even EC-KCL will be moved over the to mainline crew.

Does anyone know how long those remaining 2 757-200s will stay in the fleet?

It would be nice to get some service to Spain from LAX, instead of having a god awful connection in one of the U.S. or european Mega hubs of hell. It probably wont happen as european airlines seem to pass over LAX, when it comes to expansion or increasing frequencies. I still think IB could do it profitably. Good news about the plane, and funny mistake. I Hope LAX is next...one can wish.  Smile

This A-343 and also all 3 343s (EC-IDF, EC-IIH and EC-KCL) will be flown by Audeli cockpit crew and IB cabin crew as of 1st September. It comes as an agreement reached by Iberia Cabin Crew and the company.
If such an agreement was made with the pilots we might see the whole operation return to Iberia, but not before.
Four new A346 have been bought with two more options with deliveries starting next fall 2008.

Hope it helps

Of course you may know something which is no public yet but I don't see IB-Gestair agreement end.

-) The plan was to out-source all the 757 so IB only had to fly 320-series....(MDs are on their way out too) -> They got it.
-) Air Atlanta lease for the 2 747-400 ended.... -> IB handed 2 340-300 to Audeli to do the very same flying. (HAV and TFN)
-) 757 is an ideal plane for air shuttle service but with high speed train entering service in December, the air shuttle service will be flown by smaller planes. ->757s no longer needed
-) With 757 retired from IB service, IB had some spare out-sourcing capacity -> 1 more 340-300 to Audeli (from AF) to do 3 routes (HAV GIG and SDQ) where IB planes have to be flown with 3 flight crew members and Audeli only needed 2.
-) By winter timetable there was only 1 757 planned to be servicing IB flights, although this may change. But that will allow IB managment to out-source up to 5x 340-300 to Audeli, or whoever for that matter, to fly to Central America destinations where 3 IB crew members are required but Audeli can fly with 2.

Doesn't seem likely at this point, it seems like A346's in the near future and A350 (or B787's) on the long term are the ones that fits better their model.

Although things could change, who knows?
