Which routes will serve the Tupolev Tu-204?

Supposed to be domestic (SCU and HOG), Canada, Dominican Republic and Mexico. Any announced route with schedules?

For me it looks more like a 757 with the A320 nose, lovely plane anyway.
Are this birds with an english cockpit and only 2 man crew, like the IL-96-300's that they already got??

I had the chance to fly on a TU 204 twice, with Air Cairo on BEY-SSH and SSH-BCN. It is a great powerful aircraft with really a "western aircraft look" inside.

In any case, Cubana is already flying to Canada ... and Russian made airplane already fly over US airspace and even land in the U.S !

Now will this fill the void that Cubana has for medium range aircraft?
They already have the IL-62 and IL-96 for longhaul and were using them for short haul routes. The Yak-42D doesn't fly to Toronto.

Don't forget they have ordered 3 An-148.
I think they will use them on domestic and caribean routes.
Tu-204 will fly to Canada and South America.
Il-96 to Europe and sometimes on charter flights to Canada to bring more toursists.
I will fly from Caracas to Havana and return next year (May). Hope to fly the Tu-204 and Il-96!

How are they paying for the aircraft (i.e., how do the Russian sell the stuff)? In Russian currency, in USD or as part of a barter deal.

I can't say I'm all that excited though, the Tu204 in Cubana's mostly white scheme looks too western. Like some A321, 757 or something. I hope it doesn't replace the IL62s (although it probably will) on those routes around the neighborhood.

Quoting SIBILLE (Reply 15):

Wow I didn't even know this. When did they order it?

That's one small jet that isn't your typical boring twin. T-tail, wing on top of fuselage. Now that's cool.

Certainly.

Quoting FlySSC (Reply 11):
... and Russian made airplane already fly over US airspace and even land in the U.S !

In the case of CU, a landing in the US would have two reasons:

1. Diversion (which is highly unlikely)
2. VIP flight to the United Nations (just like IR did for last year's UN general assembly)

Remember the AN-24 that is stored in Florida (I believe in FLL). After the aircraft landed in the US, it was immediately repossessed for auction (AFAIK this may be a consequence of the trade embargo).

Quoting Superfly (Reply 14):

They already have the IL-62 and IL-96 for longhaul and were using them for short haul routes. The Yak-42D doesn't fly to Toronto.

I'd say it will fill the void for medium capacity aircraft, a void that was left after the TU-154s were phased out. Remember that CU also operates Irish registered A320s through an ACMI from TA.

Quoting SIBILLE (Reply 15):
Don't forget they have ordered 3 An-148.

Will those replace the Yak-42Ds?

Quoting Superfly (Reply 17):
What about the IL-62?

Technically it can land in the US, no matter which operator, but the problem here is noise. The IL-62M (the ones with the four Soloviev D-30s) is barely, if not at all, Chapter 3 noise compliant, so if one of them were to land in the US, the landing fees could go way up because of the noise issue. It would be worse with the original IL-62 model with the Kuznetsov NK-8 engines (aircraft with those engines are banned from EU airspace for noise reasons).

I'm sure about the 3 An-148 order but I'm not sure about a MA-60 order.
I read an article about MA-60 for Cubana a few month ago (don't remember if in a forum or a magazine).
An-148 could replace Yak-42 and MA-60 replace An-24.....
About Il-62, I think they need a long range aircraft with medium passenger capacity. Il-96 must be to big for some routes, so they still keep flying a least one or two Il-62 till they have found an other aircraft.
Could we dream of Tu-204-300?????

That's what I was thinking, hence my earlier question. I mean, the Yak-42Ds, while still an important workhorse for CU, is slowly becoming too loud for today's standards and with Chapter IV noise regulations coming up. Plus they are probably gas guzzlers and will eventually become too expensive to operate.

Like it has been said in other Russian-manufacturer posts previous, it is good to see an industry that was so dominant in the '60's and suffered tremendously in the last two or three decades, to climb back out and start making a more featured appearance in the new aircraft business.

Agreed that the newer aircraft are more and more like their western counterparts, but, it is a proven design, why fudge with it?!

A great deal for both Tupolev and Cubana.

The daughter of my father's cousin who works in customs at the Jose Marti airport, that's who. Do you think they have an obligation to report it to the press? It's Cuba, remember.

I believe GRU may also have scheduled IL-62 service

Cubana hasn't flown to GRU since early 2005. IIRC they stopped when TAM began 2x weekly charters to HAV.

Don't know about CCS, though I presume CCS is only getting the IL-96.

CCS gets everything! lol IL-96 (to "ferry doctors"), IL-18s, occasional Yak-42s  duck
