Ignore if already posted. I found nothing in my cursory search.

United Airlines said the first flight by an aircraft equipped with its new premium cabin upgrade will be 767 service from Washington Dulles to Frankfurt on Oct. 29. UA said it will be the first US airline to offer 180-deg. lie-flat business class beds on long-haul flights (ATWOnline, July 25). The aircraft will operate between IAD, FRA and Zurich and will be the first of 97 planes outfitted with the new product. The first 747 will begin flying in mid-December and the first 777 in early February, UA said. One reconfigured aircraft will join the fleet each week through the fall of 2009. In addition to the new seats, UA will add on-demand IFE, new premium cabin restrooms, new seat cushions in coach and new carpet.

How many carriers worldwide offer two completely different cabins both with 180 degree lie flat seats?

new seat cushions

New fabric (i.e. blue that is already on most a/c) or actual new cusions?

It should be a new cushion in its entirety, though how much of an increase in product value it will offer, is up for grabs.

The aircraft will likely also operate a day or two earlier some domestic legs, particularly SFO-IAD.

As the conversion dates gets closer the schedule should get firmed up.

Can't wait to try it out.

With regards to Y seats, are the new cushions the only improvement in Y? Will the new AVOD for example also feature in Y? And on the 747?

i am a little dissapointed that LHR was not given the aircraft first but thats just me being selfish I guess, I hope we get a 767 not long thereafter as I am dieing to try the new seats out and see the new cabins throughout.

It has more to do with scheduling than anything else. If UA were to use the single reconfig a/c for an IAD-LHR routing in Oct, they would only be able to do it every other day (since it RON's in LHR). In other IAD-Euro markets, they can send it back and forth everyday.

Any reaction on thge UA upgrade yet from American ?

I guess they are still get used to the idea of horizontal beds in UA Business Class & don't dare to ask the board for more because they could ask why they didn't see it coming..

I'm not sure if Lufthansa is happy either..

Hopefully we will see the new Bz. class in ORD soon. I swear everything international from UA lately centers on IAD!
