Looks very smart. I've been waiting for AB to get a new livery, although the old one will surely be missed.

It really does amaze me that the new liveries of 2 quite large airlines in Germany are SO alike....

Doesn't make good for the spotter, does it?

AB actually adopts the new LTs scheme (AB bought LT).

Eurowhite liveries are simple, cheap and easy to maintain.

Is Air-Berlin taking A319s with extra o/w exits? Are they packing in 150 seats in them, like the competition?

Ah, ok - I didn't know (sorry - should definitely know things like that being an a.netter - shame!)

Will their flight numbering change to all flights numbered with AB or with the LT code still remain with flights operating under the LTU identity?

Just curious.

There will be a press conference on Sep 20th that is supposed to answer exactly those questions.

They could have done away with the italicized capitalized Arials. Nothing spactacular but nothing wrong neither with the actual colours.

It looks like they are going for the higher seating density in the same way as EasyJet and Germanwings have done. I don't know how many seats are on the AB new (not ex Independence Air) A319's though. I think EZY's are seated at 156.

Thanks for your answers PADSpot - very helpful indeed.

Without actually knowing it, I say 156.

More than 156? Doesn't fit - either the airplane or the customer.
Less than 150? No need for the extra doors then.

For anything between 150 and 156 you need to do the investment, accept the higher weight, more maintenance, different procedures etc. The business case works for 156 and not less ...

It's not even eurowhite - theres just no logo or graphical elements or anything. It's just red, and it says "Air Berlin" - talk about a supermarket own-brand airline ! Try a logo, why don't you ?

Quite boring, I didn't really like the old (current) one, but this livery is even worse. Don't like the new uniforms either.. Too bad..

The number of airlines opting for the higher density seating A319s is slowly growing...

What's wrong with dull and boring? Easyjet is a simple big orange name on top of a white background. No logo. It's simple and cheap. Isn't that supposed to be what 'low-fares' airlines are all about??

So, have they changed the order from only A320s to a mix of A320 and A319 or only A319? Are A319 and B73G more the right size for the "new" Air-Berlin instead of predominantly A320 and B738?

The did not publsihed the composition of their Airbus order in the first place. A year or so later they published the composition which was 45 A320 + 15 A319 IIRC.

I'd say they definitely need a larger variate in capacity than let's say U2 or FR. Even the A321 that will come into play with LT will fit in neatly and there are routes like DUS-PMI, NUE-PMI where they have room for them.

The decision however to go for Airbus AND Boeing was something CEO Hunold came up with, but behind the curtain it was rumored th HG's Niki Lauda was involved in this strategy. I don't necessarilly agree with them, but with the buy-out of DI they inherited a 40 frame B73G order anyway. These will now replace the Classic 737s and the leased B73Gs. The Airbuses are for growth and to replace leased and maybe older B738s.

They've got a brand new 738 coming in about 2-3 weeks from Seattle.

Agree about the scheme though - borrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrring. They need something like this - one of the best airline liveries out there imho :

They even ordered additional 737s after they ordered the Airbusses in addition to the 40 ordered by DI.
It will forever be a McDonnell Douglas MD 80 , Boeing MD 80 sounds so wrong

You can actually see the new livery on http://www.airberlin.de/ for a couple of days already!!!
A319 initially, and if you click on a language you'll see a 73G in new colors for a couple of seconds.

Other than it being dull and boring, I guess nothing. EasyJet's livery isn't necessarily boring....I would say more like nauseating. And back to Air Berlin, I am not sure I would categorize the livery as cheap, just dull and boring.
