Guess The Airport

Thu Aug 30, 2007 7:45 pm

While going through some old photographs I found this one:

Where was it taken? I guess the gate number visible above the aircraft might give it away, but for extra points WHEN was it taken?
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

Okay. I'll take a stab at the airport being Houston (IAH) and the photo being taken sometime in the early '90s, say either 1991 or 1992.

What do I win?  Big grin

Wow... You totally had me going for a second. I have a shot of the exact same plane at the exact same airport, only at the adjacent gate and with a BCal replacement nose cone! Yes, it is definitely Houston and taken from inside the International Arrivals building:

Kinda miss those piney woods....

IAH is one of the few airports where trees, not landmarks or water, give it away. Line of pine trees, flat, off in the distance, brown grass, and served with a BA widebody? Gotta be IAH. As for the year, no idea. Before the late 1990s.

I say the photo was taken August 25, 1994... Am I right?
The proper term is "on final" not "on finals" bud...

Yes I knew this wouldn't be a challenge, it is indeed IAH and was taken in 1990, I was trying to find the exact date yesterday but no luck yet. Here's another old classic taken on the same day.

Not been to many airports then  Smile

My first take was that it was PER - trees, not landmarks or water, give it away. Line of eucalyptus trees, flat, off in the distance, brown grass - but I couldn't remember if any BA DC10s ever made it here - as far as I know only B747s were used. Then I saw the stand sign was wrong - black and white, not yellow with black text, and not numbered in the 50s like the airside international stands are here.

Yay, I got one of these "guess the airport"s right finally  Smile

Just curious, why does the sign say IAB when it's at IAH?

IAB stood for international arrivals building. Those gates have all since been changed to D gates as in terminal D.
