New Routes For CO After 739ER Deliveries?

Will CO be moving the 752s to new destinations from EWR or will they increase frequencies on existing flights in US & Europe? Also, will the new 737-900ERs be used for new routes and increased frequencies or just to increase frequencies?

I think that CO will use the Boeing 737-900ER to replace the domestic 757 flights. Maybe the 767 to. Then they will use this 757/767s to expand into Europe and south America.

I think some EWR-west coast flights will have the ER. I also think their addition will also help open up some newer year-round routes like CLE-SEA with either 738, 739, or 9ER equipment.

Possible routes:

EWR--SFO/LAX/SEA/IAH/CARRIBEAN MARKET

IAH--EWR/LAX/SFO/CARRIBEAN MARKET

CLE-EWR for EWR feed

I don't think the 739ER will fly many new routes, but could open the door for 757/767 to fly new routes and generally just be redeployed.

One new route we know for sure for 2008 is CLE-CDG, this route is made possible either from the 737-900ER freeing up a 757-200 from a domestic route or from the 757-300 taking over IAH-LIM.

Probably EWR-CUN, I flew EWR-CUN with my Wife in January 2002 on a CO 737-900. The aircraft was brand new and was a great flight, the 737-900ER is the right capacity for EWR-CUN which CO runs 3xs daily.

I would not be surprised to see either 752 or 762 on EWR-HEL (Finally!!) route. This has been speculated so long so I think it will materialize rather sooner than later.

Why not using the B739 on the transatlantic services to places like DUB/SNN/BFS? At least during the winter season when demand is low.  Wink

So that means the DUB route would be pusing it to the limit, correct? Would be cool to see the first non-BBJ 737 crossing the atlantic though!

Yes, specially with headwinds.There are a few equations.

~Is the range Boeing post the all equipment onboard (PTV,ETOPS equipment, etc)
~Did CO order the aux tanks (I don't know)
~Would they fly with blocked seats (defeats the purpose)

What I think we are looking at is that the 739ER will just replace 757's on trans-con, allowing them to fly the pond and other destination.

Exactly, CO will only fly aircraft with BusinessFirst Cabins on Trans-Atlantic routes, that means 757-200s, 767-200s, 767-400s, 777-200ERs, and eventually the 787-8 and 787-9.

The definitive answers thus far from similar post:

NO 737s TRANSATLANTIC. The ERs are not international birds as CO is fitting them with domestic first and not BF. They are mainly going on transcon routes, Alaska, and EWR-Carribbean/Mexico.

IAH-EWR or LAX-HNL -- NO: The IAH-EWR runs are also positioning flights for COs 767s. LAX-HNL needs the cargo lift of the 764.

Well didn't the B757 start off as domestic birds? I can't see why CO shouldn't use the B739 for those transatlantics.

I guess the real question is:

1. What does boeing mean with 2 class config ie how many seats?
2. Is the range of 3200nm incl 45min diversion fuel
3. Would the B739 make enough revenue if it would be fitted with BF and the standard CO Y seating?

Bear in mind this is all theory, however not impossible.  Wink

CO took delivery of their first 757-200 in 1994, in 1995 they launched their first Trans-Atlantic 757 route (EWR-MAN). Obviously CO had intentions of flying their 757-200s on Trans-Atlantic routes from the beginning. Again the 737-900ER is for domestic service, it will replace 757-200s operating domestic and Latin American routes from IAH so that the 757-200s can concentrate at EWR and open up more Trans-Atlantic routes. It will also replace some 737-800s on Trans-Con flights from EWR.

The 757s are overachievers on short domestic routes, but they are good when they're used on these dense, short-range shuttle flights in North America and Europe because they're cheaper to run. The plane wears many hats successfully: short but heavily-travelled hops; airports that require special, high-performance equipment; medium-density transcontinental flights; and long-but-thin routes. Flights across the Atlantic do seem to push the plane close to its limits, though.

The 739 isn't nearly as capable as the 757 on long-but-thin routes where high-performance specifications are a must.

SLC is not hot and High, La Paz Bolivia is hot and high and someplace where the 757-200 performed well for Eastern and AA. Boeing also sent 757-300s to La Paz for hot and high testing.
