Non-reving On VS

Mon Sep 03, 2007 6:13 am

I hope not to be off topic. This is after all about civil aviation, albeit trying to fly non-revenue on VS.
I have never had the pleasure so far to fly on Virgin but I was seriously contemplating getting a ZED fare on their LGW TAB route. When I price an itinerary on the VS website, the fare seems pretty low for the dates I am looking for (outbound 13th Sep return from TAB to LGW 27th), it brings an N class fare at under GBP400 with taxes. Yet when I called VS I was informed that non-reving is not an option as the flights are "full" (by this I would understand fully oversold) both ways. The person I was talking to would not even list me for the flight. I know not to be pushy when calling as a non-rev and I did not insist. But I am somehow puzzled. Could any of you out there who may travel stand-by on VS on a regular basis please let me know if this is normal procedure?
Thanks in advance.

perhaps there is an embargo? this happens sometimes during the busiest times of the year to certain destinations.

Actually, both flights look quite ok for non-rev travel on Sabre , I would give them a try but as you have more than week to go, better ask them closer to the dates of your intended travel.

If they have an embargo on this route, they will not accept you. Keep calling VS reservations untill you find an agent in a good mood and ask for his / her recommendation for best dates to try.

Here is the flight status from Sabre.

I just checked at www.flyzed.com and it shows a happy green smile for this date  Smile

There is no embargo ( at least with my airline) but I suppose there would be one for everybody.

Thank you all for your replies! I will try and call again. I hate doing that as I know that the reservation agents are busy and have other things to do than deal with non-revs...
