A380 Winglet Replaced Yet?

Mon Sep 03, 2007 6:55 pm

Anyone know?

I know it is in HKG now - but didn't see any photographs close enough to detail this.

No winglets installed as of 3 hours ago. (1430hrs HK time.) I arrived in HKG this PM and the A380 was parked at gate 62, 2 gates away from my arrival gate. It had a 747 on one side and a 777 on the other side. My first impression was that the A380 did not strike me as very much larger than the other aircraft nearby. (But thats just me.  Yeah sure) Looks like they were doing gate servicing trials. I don't know how long it will be at the terminal. I assume they will tow (or taxi) it over to the business aviation ramp later on.

Cheers,
Bob

Just out of curiosity, which airframe was it that was involved in the incident? I'm led to believe that it was c/n 007 (F-WWJB) but would appreciate confirmation of this.

It did the flypast this morning minus both winglets. Airbus is supposedly going to install a new pair tonight. An additional VFR harbour flypast (unscheduled before today) will be performed tomorrow weather permitting (9km vis + 2000' cloudbase).

MSN 007 will be receiving the winglets from MSN 009. I believe they may be fitted to MSN 007 whilst it's out in Hong Kong - to give it a more representative appearance for the remainder of the Asian Aerospace show.

They were to do a second flypast this morning for some pictures of it with winglets. Good from a PR point of view but too bad the weather is playing up. Current weather is rain and 800' cloudbase - too low for VFR. Tallest buildings along the route are 1350' or so.

They might do it tomorrow before it departs but again it depends on the weather.

The new winglets are on the aircraft today.

Were you on board the Big Bus?
Do you know who are the Airbus pilots assigned for the Asian tour/HKG?
