Lufthansa's HKG-MUC To Go B 747-400 In January 08?

Tue Sep 04, 2007 1:56 am

According to my travel agent, HKG-MUC will go B 747-400 in January 2008 for LH. Can anyone confirm that?

Hmm, that would come as a suprise, since LH doesn't use any 747s to MUC. To schedule the aircraft effectively, they would have to introduce another 747 destination as well.

The FRA-HKG route is on a 744, so they could in theory operate FRA-HKG-MUC-HKG-FRA with HKG acting as the link between MUC and FRA.

I do have my doubts though as the Afternoon HKG-FRA and Evening HKG-MUC seems to fit in with LH's PVG operations as well (afternoon to Frankfurt, Evening to Munich - although there is now an evening flight to Frankfurt as well). If they did operate the rotation I mentioned earlier it would mess up that system and possibly loose some of the current connectivity offered.

I heard this rumour a while ago, but the rumour mentioned 'several' 747-400s coming to MUC. If Lufthansa can make money with these aircraft then why wouldn't they do it ? They don't even need to dead leg aircraft to FRA for maintenance. Put them on a scheduled MUC - FRA sector like they did with the A340s at one time. British Airways operates a fleet of one 767 out of MAN which finds its way back to LHR for maintenance on a shuttle flight when required.

the travel agent is ill-informed. definitely no 744s planned at MUC at all. not gonna happen anytime soon.

BTW: When, if at all were the last scheduled LH flights operated with B747's out of MUC and to where?

Summer 2001
Daily LH 452 MUC-LAX and LH 458 MUC-SFO
(Routing was FRA-LAX-MUC-LAX-FRA and FRA-SFO-MUC-SFO-FRA)

thanks for that. If LH really needs greater capacity on MUC-HKG they should use the A346 with 3 Class.
