Jade And Shanghai Cargo Coming To DFW

Tue Sep 04, 2007 2:05 pm

I couldn't find any mention of this in previous threads. I found this link in a forum on Houstonspotters.net. ATWOnline has had this since Aug. 6.

http://www.atwonline.com/news/story.html?storyID=9779

From article: "Shanghai Airlines is scheduled to fly from Pudong to Los Angeles via Anchorage beginning in September and to Dallas/Fort Worth via ANC from next April. Jade intends to operate a Shenzhen-PVG-Portland, Ore.-DFW-Portland-PVG routing and a Shenzhen-ANC-Chicago O'Hare flight beginning this month."

Also mentioned are Great Wall to LAX and ORD and Hainan to Seattle. Asian trade is booming, and we here at DFW are already seeing EVA, Cathay Pacific, Korean, China Airlines, Air China, China Cargo, and Singapore on a regular basis at the west cargo ramp. Jade 744s and Shanghai MD-11s would be a welcome addition. If these plans go through, where would the new guys load/unload? Do they have agreements with current lessors on warehouse/ramp space, or are there enough square feet available for everyone? Any other comments/observations welcome.
I didn't get a 'Harumph' outta that guy!

Man, and they great news just keeps on coming for DFW's cargo business. Wow! Congratulations to all. These flights will no doubt be a huge success, as has been just about all the rest of AA's cargo fling lately.

This was originally supposed to be via YVR not PDX - and Im not sure about the PVG stop either, I think it was SZN - YVR - DFW, but we have heard nothing more about Jade coming here. I guess this is why.

I am surprised that with all the interest from the different Asian carriers into DFW the Japanese are nowhere to be seen or heard from. JL does good business from ATL so why not them or NCA to DFW?

Jade's website had an article stating the routing was to be SZN-YVR-IAH not DFW. So this is a different route altogether I assume.

That's why I found out about it on Houstonspotters.net, they're concerned that the previously announced Jade flights are being lost to DFW. This is probably the case if Jade does come here. They don't seem to have a fleet large enough to allot more than the 3x weekly to Texas, wether that be IAH or DFW.

They dropped the plans to serve IAH via YVR. Lack of cargo via YVR?

Aren't airports such as YVR and ANC just intermediaries anyway, as 744 freighters can't make it direct to Asia from most of the US? Also, I would suspect YVR would have enough cargo to contribute to any route as it is the major Canadian port on the west coast.

I wish it had but there is not a lot out of Vancouver. In the summer the bellies are usually full with perishable cargo but very little manifacturing in Vancovuer that can fill the capacity. The sea-air traffic which is a filler is very low yield. Much of the freight out of Vancovuer is trucked up from Seattle or Portland which are much larger cargo markets than Vancouver. Cathay operates a freighter ex YVR with a few main deck position allocated but most of the freight on these freighters originated in California. In bound from Asia is not to bad but still not a lucrative as the SEA or PDX markets.

I understand the following is slightly off-topic, but it is somewhat related to D/FW.

It seems that D/FW airport is planning to talk China Eastern into launching non-stop direct flights between Shanghai and D/FW.

For those interested, further details are available at http://en.carnoc.com/list/4/4195.html

Regards.

Well I certainly hope that HAS (Houston Airports System) is out there wooing MU, CZ, CA or someone, we can't let DFW have all the fun  box   duck
