Hongqiao-Haneda To Start Sept. 29

Wed Sep 05, 2007 4:22 pm

Charter flights between Shanghai, Tokyo to start soon

Quote:
China and Japan will launch regular charter flights for passengers between Shanghai's Hongqiao Airport and Tokyo's Haneda Airport beginning September 29 which marks the 35th anniversary of the normalization of bilateral diplomatic ties.

Two Chinese air companies, namely China Eastern, Shanghai Airlines, and Japan's two largest airlines -- Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways (ANA), will start four daily flights between the two airports, sources with the General Administration of Civil Aviation said on Saturday.

Quote:
According to official data, 16 airlines from both countries are conducting 738 flights every week, linking 19 Chinese cities and 17 Japanese ones. These companies carried more than 7.5 million passengers in 2006.

It started with Japan-Korea, now Japan-China, there are rumors for even long haul flights returning to HND. It is already an interesting place to spot. It just got more interesting and exciting!

Both JL & NH have announced their schedules Monday.
NH will fly 773ER/772ER while JL will initially start with 763ER and then upgauge to 744 at start of winter schedule.
No info on CA or FM schedules yet.

Those are rumors indeed. According to a report out by the Ministry of Transport, long-haul will stay at NRT, while a perimeter rule is being studied for any int'l flights out of HND. They have a chart showing the comparisons with the likes of DCA & LGA. One shows a perimeter rule set up at the longest domestic route, which would be to Ishigaki-jima. However, that would only include all of Korea and the very eastern portion of China. It probably needs to be widened it a little more, but that's up to the bureacrats.

Didn't expect such big aircraft.

What are NH and JL flying to SEL now?

I think NH sends a B767-389 or something. I think JL uses their very last B747-246B on this route (at least the aviation magazine stated so). I checked a couple months ago and JL was using their B747-446 with a small galley configuration (JA8910) I believe for a couple of months. But I wonder why they down-graded this route to the very last -200B route?

I think JL does have the potential to send a B744 to Shanghai, there is a lot of demand. Will both JL and NH reduce one of their NRT frequencies when they introduce the route from HND?
Flown on: DC-10-30, B747-200B, B747-300, B747-300SR, B747-400, B747-400D, B767-300, B777-200, B777-200ER, B777-300
