When will the seat maps be "revamped"? They have been unavailable for ages...

Good to see more A346 grace the skies, they look nice in EY's colourscheme.
Come, fly the prevailing winds with me

What's the deal of these middle east carriers having a "widebody only" fleet? can't believe there is a slot shortage in middle east hubs like in Japan.........

When most of the business is looking for flexibility (i.e more frequencies) while keeping capacity (i.e. smaller a/c) these people are going the opposite way  Yeah sure

I've never been to that part of the world but I understand there are a lot of routes well within the reach of modern, efficient and proven narrowbodies like A32S or B73NG, I can see the arabic peninsula itself, east africa, pakistan and india, southeast europe, etc.

Well Etihad have veered away from this business model and will now also operate narrowbodies, which makes perfect sense given that next door neighbour, a well-established EK, still successfully maintains a widebody only fleet.

Are these going on the LHR run?

The A345 in EY livery is one of the most stunning combinations I've ever seen. I imagine the A346 looks equally glorious.

Hopefully EY have more luck with this 346 than QR with theirs. A QR 346 has gone tech on me 2 out of 3 times I've been scheduled to fly on one.

QR, EY, IY, G9, SV, KU, WY, GF all operate narrow bodies so I'm not really sure what you're talking about. Maybe you're blanketing the entire region based on the fact that EK don't operate any narrows.

The shift of industries in the region is the main reason for high usage of wide bodies. Diversifying from traditional stream of income the governments in the area are developing, finance, technology and tourism. To make these viable and appealing there needs to be a cost incentive to draw people there. Dumping capacity, lowers prices and stimulates growth. The reason EK is so big and getting bigger is that it is fueling Dubai (and the region), not the other way round which is how most of us aviation enthusiasts see it.

Any idea when they are going to upgrade the A340-500 on EY100 (JFK-AUH) to an A340-600?

I saw A6-EHE overfly my home just north of Belfast in Northern Ireland at 21:19 local time on 28th August. It had just crossed the Atlantic and was approx halfway through flight ETD140 from JFK to AUH and routing MIMKU-REMSI. Through binoculars it did look beautiful at dusk.

They have just started the 346 flying into Heathrow recently. One thing peculiar about EY's 346 is that it has no "hold 5". This is the same as their 345. I understood the "hold 5" on a 345 was used up by crew rest area. But it is strange that would be the same on the 346. I must admit their scheme does look good on these longer 340s as well!

A small piece of trivia...

This plane is the 300th A330/A340 with RR engines.  Smile

I know I'll get flamed for this, but imo they only took the 77W, because they could get it earlier. Their recent additional order of 4 A346, while operating 77Ws, speaks for itself.

When will the rest of the B763S and A340-300 leave, I gues when the 2 A332's leave all other A332's that will remain then will be the ones that were directly ordered by Ethidad and feature their interior, no?

They only have one of each, and AFAIK this has always been like that. Now the B763 is used for the Amiri Flight in a VIP config.

Yeah! It was nice plane I saw at YYZ on Sept 1st with Parr Yonemoto and among with other spotters out there. A6-EHF is new registration as well, it is A340-642X according to ATDB. Do not forget to add "X" which is the correct one.

From what I know, all A346s produced now are -642X (High Gross Weight).

Not specifically no, but as you can imagine I asked an FA what the reason for the sub was and got the usual "equipment problem" spiel. In fact I flew LHR-DOH-KTM return and both legs involving London we 346s that got subbed.

Is it possible that it was due to the lower loads on the flights so there was a sub? I mean this is also possible per your observation.....
