AF-KLM: Iberia Still A Possibility

Wed Sep 05, 2007 11:02 pm

At the opening of a new terminal at Paris, AF-KLM chairman Spinetta had some small news bits.

He said that a take over of Iberia is still a possibility. According to Spinetta AF-KLM wants to be part of the European consolidation process which is taking place at the moment. (AF-KLM, LH-LX). Iberia can still be part of these plans because, according to Spinetta, Spain is one of the important markets in Europe.

Spinetta didn't want to react on rumours about a possible take over of Alitalia. AF-KLM had tried to take over the troubled Italian airline earlier, but has heavy demands on profitability before talks can continue.

Spinetta didn't wanted to react on a question from a journalist about Rome or Madrid would became a new hub for the group. He simply said that he couldn't go into that at this moment.

Hmmm... Looks like AF-KLM is up to something. The upcoming months will be interesting.

Cheers!  wave

That's for sure, and they have enough cash to to it. I still vote for AB.

Try their semi-LCC operation to feed to the AF/KL network, plus AB's own longhaul network. Fares will go up to allow interlining, but will still be way lower than LH's.
