Question About 747 Airframe 21190/272

Thu Sep 06, 2007 8:26 pm

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but my search did not gave any results.
Looking at the photo of ZS-OOS I saw in the description that is was a Boeing 747-258C. When I searched the database I for some more pics of the same airframe I found one of the a/c in it's EL-AL time. However the type was then called Boeing 747-258C/SCD. But I could not see any signs it has a Side Cargo Door on the main-deck. The airframe obvious has a nose-door however.
My question is, Did Boeing build 747's with main-deck nose loading door without a main-deck Side Cargo Door? And if so, how many were build for which customers?

Yes Boeing has built such an aircraft. They are B747-200C (Convertible passenger/freighter), and only 13 aircraft were built with World Airways, El Al, Iraqi Airways amongst the customers. The success was in part limited by the arrival of the -200BM.

You're welcome.

To be exact, you have to know that amongst the 13 built there are two versions with or without side cargo door. Iraqi Airways launched the SCD equipped -200C. MP was a late customer for that version too.

Edit:

Here's the whole list of customers for the B747-200C:

World Airways (3) 20651/20652/20653

Iraqi Airways (3) 21180/21181/22366

El Al (2) 21190/21594

Transamerica Airlines (3) 21964/21965/22403

Martinair (2) 23652/24061

Without certainty, I guess that only LY and WO have received B747-200C without Side Cargo Door.

So that makes only 4 airframes similar to 21190/272 then.
(Almost just as rare, as the Alitalia MD-11's with the main-deck cargo-door fitted behind the wing)

Yep! And they are even more rare as one of the former WO aircraft has been scapped, and as will be the former Hydro Air.
