Spirit's Special MD-83 At LAX

Fri Aug 18, 2000 2:31 am

Right now I'm on holiday in Greater L.A. and often watch the traffic going to LAX.
For three consecutive days, I have now seen Spirit's specially painted MD-83 approaching to LAX at about 07.15pm.
I didn't know that they fly to LAX, I thought they only serve East Coast destinations.
Does anybody know more? Thanks!

They get more use of the aircraft when they fly to LAX in the evening. Otherwise it would just be sittng on the ground in Detroit. The return flight leaves aroun 2300. JetBlue has a similiar flight from JFK to ONT, but it arrives there at around 2200, so no good picture taking oppurtunities.   I think may Midway may start doing something similiar from RDU when they get more 737-700s. Midway may start service to the West Coast with the 737s, but if I'm not mistaken, LAX falls under a "non-compete" clause according to their initial agreement with AMR when they moved to RDU, as does MIA and DFW.
