First Emirates A380 Is Airborne

Sat Sep 08, 2007 2:25 pm

The first A380 that will be delivered to EK next year took to the air on 04 September. It is MSN011, the tenth A380 to fly. It is now in XFW for cabin outfitting. This is the real thing; all previous A380 photos with the Emirates livery were of MSN004, temporarily painted up for the Dubai air show.

I thought this was noteworthy since EK has 55 of these beasts on order.

Was it Airbus pilots flying MSN011 BigBus or Emirates?
Maybe this is still considered testing so I don't know...  Confused
There was a better way to fly it was called Concorde

Finally, the first A380-861 takes to the air  Smile (F-WWEA is officially an A380-841, since it is to be converted to RR power prior to delivery..).

Usually prior to delivery, the airline's pilots only fly the yet to be delivered aircraft during acceptance flights. At least, that's how it's done at Boeing, but I guess it should also apply for Airbus as well.

Evidently Airbus. It won't be delivered for quite a while (summer 2008)

Looks like they have "recycled" the emergency slide door below the first upper deck door from an aircraft in Airbus house colours?

You really notice details. But even stranger, the picture shows a plane's left side. The writing seems to be part of an A. However, the house colours have the "A" in light blue on the right side of the plane at that emergency slide. The left side normally has the "S" there.

By the same token, it looks like they have "recycled" almost every door too, as most of them are showing the loght blue color strip, at the top. In fact looking at the pictures provided above, it appears that they do that quite often. Interesting.

that is because one side says A380 Airbus and the other says Airbus A380

how large is the radius of the 380 engines (not sure what engines are on this plane!) compared to the GE's on AC's 777's?

The A380 looks a bit thickset on this picture, they should stretch the fuselage!

Is that from "recycling" the panels or something else? Because the nose gear doors are the same blue color.

It's possible EK will make it happen:

Big version: Width: 1000 Height: 750 File size: 119kb

It would sure look more graceful with the stretch.

All the Emergency Slide Doors are Identical in shape AFAIK.

That is the colour of all new A380 Nose Gear doors before painting.

I was thinking the same thing. The current version looks more like a 747Sp in terms of proportions, with plenty of room to expand. Just don't know if that's feasible.

The feasibility is entirely a matter of market demand. Technically it is more than feasible; the entire airplane was designed for it from the start, with countless design features to facilitate growth. Emirates has often stated a desire for the A380-900 (along with everything else under the sun Big grin)

Since they are working so hard on the plane, am kind of hoping that it will be fully furnished and painted for the Dubai Airshow starting in mid-November (11th November to be exact).

Will keep my fingers crossed!!!

BTW, since the plane is already going for furnishings, then to the paint shop... is there a chance that delivery will happen before the planed August 2008?
