Deutsche Bank Owns 16.4% Of Air Berlin..

Tue Sep 11, 2007 3:47 pm

Deutsche Bank has increased it's stake in Air Berlin PLC from 14 to 16.4 %.
It is assumed the bank is buying in behalf of a unknown client ,since normally Deutsche Bank does not take significant stakes in airlines.
In the past unfounded rumours have brought Air France in connection with a take-over of Air Berlin, which was immediately refuted by the French airline as totally unfounded .

It was inofficially said that "the lion share" of AB shares bought by DeutscheBank are in fact their own asset management positions, mainly those of DWS, DeutscheBank's Fonds Company. It seems some fonds managers all had the same idea. The remainder of the lion share seems to be indeed third party holding positions which is not unsusual. There are hundred or even thousands of companies of which a bank sized like DeutscheBank holds minor (<5%) positions of on behalf of third parties.

The interesting question is why DWS has so many AB shares in its fonds?!

Btw a little off topic rumor on a Berlin spotter page is that AB will phase out its F100 within this winter.

Interesting, even though I don't understand it. Can't see a reason for it. Source? Just out of interest ...
