I definitely need to get back to AVL to see all the updates to the terminal and the new art gallery addition. I'll be in RDU at the end of the month to see all the construction havoc that is being wrought.

That map is a nice bit of information to look at  Smile

MQI gets service to Manassas via Linear Air
EWN gets upgraded DLX service from 40 seat to 50 seat RJ.. back up to 3 daily flights

Oh.. almost missed those..

ILM has had a record august. Pax count up 23 percent compared to 2006.

From ILM website:

Quote:
Our commercial air service operations for the first eight months of 2007 is at record pace of 528,704 or 23.0% over the same period in 2006 and 9.0% over 2005, our record year.

We also got a 2.5 million dollar check for more runway improvements. I cant figure what more they need. Runway 6/24 was just repaved last year and ILS added. But more funds are always a good thing.

Minor correction on CLT

There is no Terminal F and no plans to build a Terminal F

There is a Concourse E whose 6 gate expansion will open in the next few weeks.

Man, I got excited for a second.

I leave for a year or two, and bam, expansion everywhere. Almost thought that they relocated all of the rental car lots to expand from Concourse A along 18R.

Nice to see this - last year, I had to fly GSO-DTW-CLE-MHT since NW cancelled it's morning flight, but CO still had a CLE-MHT morning flight. Problem was, I had to go through DTW to get to CLE to make that flight. I still got in earlier than what I would have done waiting in DTW for the later flight, but a double-connect there was a little annoying.

Congratulations to Greensboro-Winston Salem-High Point.. ehh.. Piedmont Triad International Airport.. whichever is Politically Correct...

However, there is still more Continental announcements to come.. wonder what else is in the cards for North Carolina...

Continental currently serves four (4) North Carolina markets..

Raleigh-Durham
Piedmont Triad
Charlotte
Asheville

Do we think Continental could potentially add Wilmington, Fayetteville, or New Bern? If any are added, i think it would be to Newark.. and it would either be with the RJ or Q400...

Thoughts? Comments?

We at ILM used to get COex (GP Express) back in the 90's with B1900C/D's. They went ILM-GSO. I assume this was back when GSO was a mini hub.

So, with United back at RDU...

First.. how many people left CLT and GSO to head back to RDU? Anyone know..

Second.. does this change anything? Is there some big difference that could be seen? more destiantions or something?

6 left GSO, not positive about CLT, but when I Ieft CLT to come back to GSO there were 3 folks from RDU who I know would have definitely returned. One more will be leaving GSO as soon as part time slot comes available.

You may see SFO added at some point but it will probably be status quo for a while.

Plane crash at my local airport, Hendersonville (0A7), today.

http://www.blueridgenow.com/article/...rashes_near_Hendersonville_airport

^ Link includes a nice video and some photos. Worth checking out.

Looks like the pilot escaped with just "minor injuries", he was "sore all over". The plane was some sort of one-seater WW1 replica.

Anyway, glad to hear the guy is safe and alive.  Smile

They've got a museum of sorts there, don't they? Is it worth checking out? I was going to head over the last time I was in AVL, but the day I chose, they were closed, unfortunately.

Is this the same guy that crash landed another military replica aircraft onto 4 Seasons Blvd in Hendersonville about a year or so ago? I was up in the area over Labor Day and they were giving rides in Military Helicopters and the Replica aircraft during the Apple Festival.

Yeah, they do. The historic aircraft are pretty impressive, but the museum isn't very extensive. Unless it's convenient, it's probably not worth a long drive out. It is somewhat interesting though.

What's the most fun is watching GA pilots come in right over the trees and then sink down to make the runway in time. Really neat approach.

Looking at this photo, the trees on the far end of the runway are what I'm talking about. You cross over the trees then pretty much go straight down from there.  Smile

I'm not sure, that thought crossed my mind as well. The crash you're talking about was 3 or 4 years ago, though. I was kind of under the impression that the pilot died in that crash on 4 Seasons. Maybe not.

Were you up in Hendo for the Asshole Festival? Cool, I was there too. All three days, actually. You didn't happen to see the parade, did you?

Yeah, the WNC Pilots Association gives rides out of Hendersonville during the Apple Festival and during the Air Fair up here.

Currently, there is only scheduled service at the following:

The only other airport I think should have scheduled service is Manteo

DL has never served Concord, too close to CLT, just as is INT to GSO. It is however NC's 4th busiest airport, according to the local press, behind CLT, RDU, GSO.

So it's NC's 4th busiest airport even without commercial service? That's kind of hard to believe...

Came to RDU this past weekend. Construction on Terminal C looks to be in full swing with a lot of the super structure up and completed for the new phase of the terminal.

How long have they had those colored vinyl banners hanging from the ceiling in C? I don't seem to recall them from the last time I flew through RDU. Reminded me of YYZ T2 in the early 80s with the colors.

Those billboards may have been for Hickory....DL connection did operate flights into Hickory for a while in the past couple of years. If i'm not mistaken Hickory has seen DL connection off and on but it seems to never make it.

US Express also used to operate into Hickory but I think was dropped shortly after 9/11.

Something new happening at CLT this year...a 5K Run on the airport premises. It is being billed as the Runway 5K Run and will start at the FBO on the East side of the Airport and then go down both 36R and the diagonal 5/23. I assume they will keep 36L open for commercial operations. It is happening at 8am on Saturday November 10th.

I know it is pretty common to do this type thing for a new runway before it opens...but this is the first I have heard of an active airport having a 5K run on current runways. Has this happened anywhere else?

More info here on the run:

I've noticed that AA enclosed some of the waiting areas around certain gates. Was that recent?

Was just checking RDU-PHL flights, and was surprised to see $139 RT flights on US!  Wow!

Compared to the ~$220 RT flights from AVL (at ungodly times and with a connection), that's a steal! You folks down in the triangle are lucky. Getting all the good fares and such.

Agreed. You could see where the dust had been collecting on top of them for a while.

Ain't it NASTY? Like dandruff stuck to the top of them.. ewww

And the tile. And the walls. And the gate signs. And the furniture. And the stores are sub-par...

I don't know. Will ask my friend that works at the gate. They are probably prepping for construction on that end of the airport. I just wished that they had kept A16 and not let AA close it down and use it for a storage area. That would have been a GREAT gate for ExpressJet.. 4 hard stands and 4 ticket counters in one gate area!

I plan to do some spotting today.. perhaps some photo-shooting. I'll try to post some to wiki because we all know they won't be good enough for A.net.

Anyone heard rumors of any recent upgrades, new routes, or new airlines to RDU? I mean, besides XNA by MQ, FLL by B6 and WN, MCO by FLL, and CUN by DL? Seems like each new route was shadowed by a loss of LAS and 1 PIT and 1 PHX by US, 2 JFK by B6...

It reminds me of pretty much every interior surface on the ground level here at YYZ. 'Course, it should be expected on the ground level, since we do all the work down there and have tractors and whatnot running through places constantly.

True, the whole interior is in need of refurb. More concessions would be welcome too. I'm guessing that's all going to come when the new C concourse is up and running.

Just saw an article in the Triangle Business Journal entitled "Airports has it's heart set on flights to West Coast" or something like that.. article

Updates....

RDU-DEN is at a 91% LF and United is very pleased
RDU-LAX is averaging 68% LF for the past 12 months, but with very good yield and Delta is pleased
RDU-SFO is being looked at.. but unsure if it will be United because it may take away from their DEN flight.
RDU-SEA is on Alaska's radar, but there are some other East Coast markets that will come first (may be a hint to more East Coast expansion by AS)..
RDU-PVD is on RDU's wish list but no takers yet...

So when does RDU want SFO service? well, they are hoping for a nice Christmas gift.. *wink* perhaps, like Mary, a Virgin will be the answer.. heheheheehehe

I could see AS running a once a day flight with a -700. That might make me try them again.
