There have been two fatal crashes at Reno in the first three days of the race. The first was a biplane that stalled after takeoff, and the second was the pilot of an L-39 Albatross who may have gotten caught in the wake of the jet ahead of him, according to officials. Thursday afternoon's competitions were cancelled, but are expected to resume tomorrow.
Very sad news and I hope this does not affect future races in any way.
Including these two crashes, there have only been 17 fatal crashes in the 44 years of the race. It is unfortunate that the number of deaths at the race increased by more than 10% in one year.
This thread is different than this one: First Crash Of Reno Air Races 2007 (by SlamClick Sep 4 2007 in Civil Aviation)
That crash had no fatalities, and this thread is to discuss the two that have occurred since then.
