JAL Domestic First Class (pics)

Fri Sep 14, 2007 1:29 pm

I know this thread was posted before, but this time JAL posted photos and more detailed information.

JAL will introduce first class for the first time on domestic flights. The new offering will be rolled out on seven daily flights between Tokyo Haneda and Osaka Itami . From April 1, the first class product will be available on flights from HND to Fukuoka and Sapporo.

The seats will be arranged on board B777-200 aircraft in a 2-2-2 configuration, and a center partition made with a wood finish has been added between each pair of seats for extra passenger privacy. The customer-friendly principles of Universal Design have been incorporated into the seat's design to ensure that it is usable by as many people as possible regardless of age or physical condition.
Passengers who have purchased a domestic fare ticket can upgrade from economy class to first class by paying just 8,000 yen for each sector of their journey.

It's rare to see one airline offering First Class on domestic flights this days. Good move, I hope it works for JL.

That is a very cheap upgrade price, the seats and food look worth it to me. Are domestic Y tickets very expencive?

They can be quite expensive, but if you are travelling from abroad, you can get good deals and then, you can still pay the surcharge and get the F or J Class seats. Although I don't really see the point of reclining seats on a flight of only 1h30-2h, it certainly is a nice way to travel.

I remember flying from ITM to HND about five or six years ago, on a JAS 777, and that was a very nice experience; relatively expensive ticket to begin with (about £100 one way), but a small surcharge for F Class and Bob-san's your uncle - a nice 2-2-2 layout and a very nicely presented snack.

Less than that. Flight times in the winter between HND-FUK or CTS-HND can go 1.5 hours but ITM-HND can be done as little as 30 minutes. Not sure if any corporation is going to approve 8,000 yen even for top execs, but we will see.
JL is stuck with a marginally better seats with the J-class which only adds 1,000 yen.
ANA's Super Seat upgrade costs approximately 4,000 yen which is much better suited for such short-duration domestic runs.

I look at it this way. When you watch television at home, if you have a recliner, you'll stretch out, right? Even for the half hour shows.
Just when I think you've said the stupidest thing ever, you keep talkin'!
